About The Position

The Learning Specialist at Touro University Nevada (TUN) is a full-time, permanent role within the Office of Academic Services and Institutional Support (OASIS). This position focuses on enhancing the academic success, retention, and graduation rates of students in the College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) and College of Health & Human Services (CHHS). The Learning Specialist provides personalized support to students facing challenges in their coursework and board exams, develops learning strategies, and conducts workshops on various academic skills. The role requires collaboration with faculty and other departments to ensure comprehensive support for students.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Science, Health Science, Social Science, Educational Psychology, Education, or a related field with a concentration in adult learning.
  • Experience working with graduate and/or professional students.
  • Experience in higher education, preferably in student or human services.
  • Experience with academic research and graduate-level writing.
  • Knowledge of APA formatting and editing academic papers.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree with a background in the Sciences (biology, anatomy, physiology, etc.).
  • Experience with graduate-level life or health sciences.
  • Experience teaching, training, and delivering presentations.
  • Experience working in online environments.
  • Enthusiasm for working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with students individually to assess their needs for academic success.
  • Develop strategies to improve study skills, test-taking skills, and time management.
  • Monitor student progress and academic performance with suggested strategies.
  • Assist students in researching sources and using APA writing techniques.
  • Refer students to additional services such as tutoring and counseling if needed.
  • Prepare students for high-stakes decisions regarding their academic programs.
  • Act as a backup for the ADA Learning Specialist and process accommodation requests.
  • Document individual meetings with students and manage scheduling around these meetings.
  • Review learning science research and apply it to student needs.
  • Develop and deliver workshops for current and prospective students.
  • Assist faculty in identifying students needing additional support.
  • Attend and participate in university meetings and events as assigned.
  • Engage in professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Uphold university policies and procedures and articulate the mission and values of TUN.
