About The Position

The Bishop’s School seeks a Part-time Learning Specialist with immediate start. Reporting to the Director of Teaching and Learning (DTL), the Part-time Learning Specialist (PTLS) is responsible for supporting students’ academic and personal growth and development using age-appropriate strategies and tools. The PTLS will accurately identify learning differences and draw upon current strategies and supports for academic success, employing educational technology, as indicated, to enhance the support provided to students. The PTLS is expected to complete administrative tasks as necessary to ensure adherence to the mission of The Learning Center and appropriate documentation of student progress. This is a 10-month/year part-time, in-person position. The preferred schedule is 4-hours per day, Monday through Friday, ideally based upon the School’s rotating daily schedule.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, advance degree(s) preferred
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in a teaching or similar role with this age group
  • Demonstrated experience with exceptionality, neurodiversity, and/or special education
  • High level of expertise in student support
  • Demonstrated work ethic and proactive approach combined with accountability
  • High level of reliability including attentiveness to deadlines
  • Exceptional level of organizational skills and ability to effectively multi-task
  • Ability to perform at a high level both independently and as part of a team to achieve identified goals
  • Conduct all job responsibilities in a manner that is professional, trustworthy and mature, using tact, diplomacy, and appropriate judgment
  • Willingness and ability to actively collaborate with all school constituencies
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated mindset that exhibits flexibility, creativity, and ability to problem solve
  • Intermediate proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office, and willingness to become proficient in new programs, learning management systems, collaboration and productivity apps as needed
  • Willingness and ability to complete administrative tasks as needed to support students and The Learning Center

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in independent schools is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Effectively coordinate, plan, organize and instruct students individually and in small groups to help them develop study skills, strategies, and other relevant competencies
  • Maintain confidential, accurate, detailed, and complete records of student support and individual growth and development
  • Adhere to professional standards in keeping students, parents, and teachers informed and updated in a timely manner concerning student growth and development
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay abreast of current trends and new approaches to learning and neurodiversity
  • Incorporate educational and assistive technologies in student support
  • Participate collaboratively in departmental discussions
  • Participate in a program of professional evaluation of pedagogical practice, as led by the DTL and/or academic administrators
  • Collaborate with the Learning Services team and Directors of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice to support the importance of awareness of neurodiversity in the school community
  • Working collaboratively with Learning Center team members, refer students as needed for external services, providing all necessary communication and information related to student success to the Director of Teaching & Learning and Student Services team
  • Understand and support students toward success within the framework of the School’s rigorous academic and co-curricular programs
  • Model the School’s mission and its values of integrity, compassion, inclusion, intellect, excellence and justice
  • Be present on campus on scheduled school and professional development days at least 10 minutes prior to first obligation and hold assigned classes as scheduled
  • Embrace the special needs and requirements associated with an academic calendar and schedule which may necessitate fluctuations in workdays and hours
