About The Position

The Pierce County Skills Center is seeking a Medical Assistant Teacher to instruct high school students in essential academic and employability skills related to the Medical Assistant field. The role involves delivering innovative education, overseeing clinical experiences, and collaborating with industry professionals to ensure students gain necessary competencies for success in their careers.

Requirements

  • Valid and appropriate certificate and endorsements for Washington State required.
  • Valid Medical Assistant, LPN or RN license.
  • Hold appropriate Career and Technical Education (CTE) Certificate in Health Therapeutic Careers or Medical Assistant.
  • Meet requirements of the Every Student Succeeds Act.
  • Ability to implement programs leading to industry certification for students.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective classroom management.
  • Proven effective teaching methods and strategies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse cultural backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous successful teaching experience at grade level/subject preferred.
  • Understanding of Washington State Common Core State Standards.
  • Ability to use a variety of instructional strategies and methods appropriate for student learning needs.
  • Ability to integrate technology with the curriculum.
  • Problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to organize ideas, time, and materials to accomplish goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other staff members through Professional Learning Communities.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct high school students in basic academic, applied, and employability skills in the Medical Assistant program.
  • Oversee students during Year 2 clinicals.
  • Partner with an advisory committee to ensure students gain necessary competencies.
  • Implement and update state-approved curriculum competencies in coordination with industry and advisory committee.
  • Provide a safe learning environment by being cognizant of safety and health factors.
  • Maintain relationships with related instructors in participating high schools and community colleges.
  • Develop industry partnerships and create post-secondary opportunities for students.
  • Work with counselors, students, and administrators to develop individual programs for specific student needs.
  • Organize and maintain the instructional facility, equipment, and resources.
  • Stay current professionally by taking related courses and participating in professional organizations.
  • Collect meaningful data to drive instruction and enhance student learning opportunities.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students, parents, staff, and program matters.
  • Ensure membership and student participation in a Career & Technical Student Organization (CTSO).
