About The Position

The Learning Disabilities Teacher-Consultant (LDTC) functions in the school environment as an educational diagnostician, instructional programmer, Child Study Team member, educational consultant and instructional leader. The LDTC ensures that students receiving special education services and Section 504 accommodations achieve academic success, across all subjects, as measured by achievement of IEP goals, benchmark assessments and grades, and state exams.

Requirements

  • Ability to assess, analyze and classify students' learning differences.
  • Strong knowledge of NJ special education regulations and compliance policies/procedures, NJAC 6A:14.
  • Strong knowledge of inclusive special education practices and instructional strategies for special education students.
  • Ability to plan and facilitate delivery of programs for children with learning differences.
  • Results-oriented individual - a flexible thinker willing to do 'whatever it takes.'
  • Belief in the Mastery Charter School mission and instructional model.
  • A ferocious desire to provide our students with a world-class education.
  • Strong communication and analytical writing skills.
  • Ability to develop collaborative relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including parents and other team members.

Responsibilities

  • Drive student achievement for students receiving special education services.
  • Serve as a member of the Child Study Team and the Intervention and Referral Team (IRT) in the assessment of, educational planning for, monitoring of, and re-evaluation of students in need of special services.
  • Participate with other Child Study Team members, teachers, and parents, to develop an Individualized Education Program (IEP) for each identified student.
  • Monitor compliance to and effectiveness of IEPs through observation, review of records, staff conferences and assessment; make recommendations for change where indicated.
  • Provide effective pre-referral intervention strategies to instructional staff & effectively manage the Response to Instruction & Intervention (RtII) program.
  • Serve as the liaison between the student and other professional service providers (other Child Study Team members, teachers, speech, occupational, and physical therapists, therapeutic support staff).
  • Provide support for instructional staff through consultation, observation and demonstration for implementation of effective instructional strategies and materials for differentiation to meet student needs.
  • Conduct or provide staff development sessions and educational programs for parents to promote an understanding of learning concepts and to increase competency in dealing with problems in learning, behavior and adjustment.
  • Develop Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSPs).
  • Support with manifestation determination meetings and write all required documents.
  • Responsible for ensuring school is in compliance with all state and federal law governing special education compliance.
