About The Position

The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and its chapters represent over 124,500 family physician, resident, and medical student members, playing a critical role in improving health across the United States. AAFP is dedicated to advancing family medicine, saving members time, and maximizing membership value, enabling family physicians to focus on providing quality and cost-effective patient care. The AAFP aims to provide continuing medical education (CME) to family physicians and other healthcare professionals, based on adult learning principles, with the goal of increasing the implementation of meaningful change in practices. The Learning Development Strategist is a key member of the Education Division, offering guidance and support and collaborating across AAFP to translate learning design strategy into engaging, technology-enabled learning activities, including e-learning, webinars, and live-streamed events. This role involves leveraging existing technologies and platforms to enhance learner engagement and improve the effectiveness of virtual and digital learning experiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Demonstrated experience developing technology-enabled learning for adult audiences, including e-learning and virtual learning experiences.
  • Experience working with learning management systems and educational technologies required.
  • Self-directed, adaptable, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience in continuing medical education preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Advising and supporting faculty and staff with technology-based learning projects consistent with best practices and instructional design principles and adult learning theory.
  • Identifying and communicating opportunities for process and quality improvements, evaluating requests for technology-based learning projects and recommending technologies that match learning objectives.
  • Serving as course development consultant on project teams and reviewing completed courses after development.
  • Designing and developing CME courses within the AAFP learning management system, including building, testing, and troubleshooting course functionality, engaging with IT to define the scope and business rules of projects.
  • Designing, developing, coordinating, and conducting instructional technology sessions and workshops that promote technology integration to enhance instruction.
  • Informing staff and faculty members on best practices for online course design based on the best research, collaborating with Learning Design Strategists to translate learning strategy and activity design into engaging, technology-enabled learning experiences, including e-learning, webinars, and live-streamed events.
  • Serve as an LMS administrator, managing course setup, user access, enrollment, system configuration, troubleshooting, and reporting.
