About The Position

Under general supervision of the Project Manager, the Learning & Development Specialist (Trainer 3) acts as an experienced professional who puts theory into practice to provide education and training programs to support new UCANR IT systems and processes. The incumbent will identify training needs, develop new training programs of diverse scope, and deliver a variety of training programs and materials to staff and academic employees focusing on administrative employees using a blending of multiple delivery channels like online, classroom, webinar, videos, etc. across variety of modules. Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced training and development professional to resolve a wide range of training issues and needs assessments. Develops new training programs and works on complex training courses of diverse scope. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for delivering training and development programs. This position is a contract appointment that is 100% fixed and ends two years from date of hire with the possibility of extension if funding permits. The home department for this position is IT Services. While this position normally is based at 2801 Second Street, Davis, CA, this position is eligible for hybrid flexible work arrangements, for applicants living in the State of California, at this time. Please note that hybrid flexible work arrangements are subject to change by the University.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience / training.
  • Knowledge of Instructional Design Tools (ex. Articulate and Captivate)
  • Thorough knowledge of training and development, performance management and workplace learning.
  • Strong skills in planning, resourcing and monitoring effective delivery of training.
  • Strong skills to conduct needs assessment and development of new training courses to meet organizational needs.
  • Thorough knowledge of delivering training programs and thorough knowledge of other areas of higher education and IT.
  • Strong analytical, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and strong presentation skills.
  • Thorough analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid knowledge of course development software and at least one Learning Management System.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully within a highly collaborative environment and able to learning business specific based on system changes.
  • Knowledge of e-learning strategies including but not limited to courses (e.g., processes and technologies).

  • Experience in working with faculty and administration in the development of training curricula in a higher education setting.
  • Experience in developing critical metrics that measure training effectiveness across diverse audiences.
  • Thorough knowledge of functional area and understands how work may impact other areas.
  • Knowledge of organization policies and procedures, including policies that impact online course development.
  • Knowledge of instructional design principles and learning strategies (e.g., ADDIE), including needs analysis, backwards design, learning outcomes and assessment design, and instructional approaches including lecture, discussion, activities, projects, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Acting as the IT Training Lead for UC ANR, responsible for identification and assessment of the training needs for IT systems by working with local functional and technical stakeholders, vendors, and others as needed.
  • Provides support to improve teaching and learning outcomes.
  • Designs complex training programs to address issues of diverse scope, aligned with organization strategies.
  • Develops written and online content in response to revised or new business and technical process using tools like Adobe, PowerPoint, Articulate, etc.
  • Develops individualized and group training programs using various applications to deliver training through mediums like manuals, quick reference guides, online training, videos, etc.
  • Maintains and enhances existing collateral to facilitate strategic training based on the UC ANR organizational goals.
  • Conducts needs analysis and evaluates effectiveness of training programs.
  • Works in a collaborative manner with others in a diverse environment and at all levels in the organization to prioritize work assignments, conduct analysis and develop recommendations.
  • Identifies stakeholders and participants, secures physical and virtual spaces, provides communications and calendars training sessions in support of training delivery.
  • Delivers a variety of complex training programs and materials to staff and academic employees using a blending of multiple delivery channels like online, classroom, webinars, videos, website updates, etc.
  • Ensures a library of on demand material is available for training on recurring activities like onboarding new employees and managers, participating in Open Enrollment periods, etc.
  • Maintains an awareness of training trends, developments and best practices of other locations of the University of California, and similar institutions nationwide.
