About The Position

The Learning Designer at Quinnipiac University's School of Nursing is responsible for developing innovative healthcare-focused learning experiences that prepare nursing students for clinical practice. This role involves collaboration with faculty, clinicians, and instructional technology professionals to design and deliver high-quality online, blended, and in-person courses, ensuring alignment with industry standards and accreditation requirements. The Learning Designer also contributes to broader initiatives within the Quinnipiac Innovations in Learning and Teaching (QILT) team, focusing on integrating cutting-edge pedagogy and technology into student-centered learning environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in instructional design tailored to nursing education.
  • Strong understanding of how people learn and ability to apply evidence-based strategies.
  • Expertise in designing courses across multiple modalities (online, blended, in-person).
  • Proficient in integrating educational technologies for engaging learning experiences.
  • Strong knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and inclusive teaching practices.
  • Extensive experience with LMS platforms, preferably Canvas.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws including HIPAA, FERPA, ADA compliance, and Section 508.
  • Project management skills for organizing course development processes.
  • Collaborative expertise working with faculty and academic staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience in learning design within nursing and healthcare programs.
  • Familiarity with nursing accreditation standards (e.g., CCNE).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with trends in instructional design.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with School of Nursing faculty, clinicians, and subject matter experts on course design and development.
  • Collaborate with faculty to ensure courses meet pedagogical standards and nursing education accreditation needs.
  • Design and integrate clinical simulations and healthcare-specific tools into courses.
  • Build and support courses in Learning Management Systems, focusing on nursing education technologies and accessibility.
  • Provide workshops on instructional design and educational technologies for nursing faculty and staff.
  • Create tailored materials to support nursing faculty in using technology for instruction.
  • Assist nursing faculty in identifying learning needs and ensuring course designs include accessibility practices.
  • Participate in training and support for Quinnipiac's educational technology stack.
  • Assist in the creation of project management plans for nursing education projects.
  • Share knowledge and expertise in nursing instructional design with QILT colleagues.
  • Stay informed on the latest research and trends in nursing education and instructional design.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that align with the School of Nursing strategic plan.
