Employment Type: Part-time (28.5 hours per week) Base Hourly: $17.53 Class/Calendar: A13, 9.25 months Benefits: None Performance Pay: Available annually New Hire Experience: 1% of the base hourly rate granted for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement, up to a ten-year maximum New Hire Education: 1% of the base hourly rate awarded for an AA or higher degree if not required for the position Job Summary: To monitor the behavior of students assigned to the Alternative Learning Center; to manage morning and lunch detentions; and to maintain accurate records Associate’s Degree or 60 college credit hours required at time of hire OR pass the ParaPro Test provided by the district free of charge.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Associate’s Degree or 60 college credit hours required at time of hire OR pass the ParaPro Test provided by the district free of charge
  • Models the attributes and skills of the MPS Portrait of a Graduate.
  • Demonstrates commitment to the MPS Promise that every student is known by name, served by strength and need, and graduates ready for college, career and community
  • Computer proficiency to include use of basic software applications (i.e. Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Ability to work well with students, parents, district personnel and general public
  • Experience with adolescent age children
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work with constant interruptions, meet deadlines and with minimum supervision
  • Ability to tutor students in reading, math and English

Responsibilities

  • Supervise students assigned to Alternative Learning Center
  • Monitor the activities of students assigned to Alternative Learning Center Program
  • Tutor Alternative Learning Center students as appropriate
  • Confer with teachers and administration to communicate the progress of individual students
  • Perform record keeping to maintain documentation of participation in program
  • Attend meetings as assigned to share information and/or to improve skills/knowledge
  • Regular and on-time attendance required
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
  • Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools
