About The Position

This position is part of WaTech's Strategy and Management Division (SMD), which manages the performance and accountability of programs and services. The Lean Specialist reports to the Lean Manager and works with staff across divisions to improve processes, measure success, and prepare executive-level reports. The Lean Specialist carries out the strategic priorities of the Lean program by solving complex problems and driving continuous improvement in processes, services, and programs.

Requirements

  • Eight years' experience in performance management, continuous improvement, project management, or another closely aligned field. Formal higher education in information technology, organizational development, business administration, management, or a comparable aligned discipline or completion of an accredited certificate program may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to two years of the required experience.
  • The above experience must include at least three of the following. Experience may be gained concurrently:
  • Two years leading or managing cross organizational projects with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Two years leading or managing a defined business program or service.
  • Two years supporting organizational change and sustaining culture initiatives.
  • Two years working within a performance management program and reporting on performance metrics.
  • Two years in developing or providing reports and recommendations on complex or high-profile projects, programs, or policies.
  • Experience in applying the formal Lean methodology within an organization.
  • Certified as Lean Green Belt (or higher) or obtain and maintain the certification within six months of hire date.

Nice To Haves

  • Lean Black Belt certification.
  • Experience working in both internal and external projects, programs, or services.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with Lean champions throughout WaTech to determine priority projects, processes, and programs for Lean efforts, reporting these inputs to the Lean Manager.
  • Create Lean artifacts, document procedures for processes throughout WaTech, such as process maps, customer journey maps, as-is and to-be process designs, after action reports, and other documents. Consult with divisional subject matter experts as necessary for accuracy.
  • Outline policies and procedures derived from Lean efforts to inform necessary changes to organizational policies as outputs of a Lean effort.
  • Make recommendations to policy and business owners on how to implement identified policy gaps.
  • Create performance dashboards and reports to monitor program performance, including both internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Lead Lean efforts of medium to high complexity, including cross-division challenges and those involving external customers.
  • Report status of projects in reporting forums such as the project management office portfolio review and other forums, leading and crafting presentation material related to medium and high complexity Lean efforts.
  • For medium and high complexity projects, responsible for all elements of the Lean workstream, including planning, process mapping, value stream mapping, and completing after action reviews.
  • Collaborate with project managers within WaTech to ensure alignment to larger project management discipline and processes.
