About The Position

Lean Practitioner – Subject Matter Expert Company: The Boeing Company Boeing Defense & Space (BDS) is seeking a Lean Practitioner - Subject Matter Expert (Level 5) to join the Lean Center of Excellence (CoE) team in Everett, WA, Berkeley, MO or Mesa, AZ! The Senior Lean Practitioner will have team lead responsibilities and combine hands-on Lean coaching and deployment across factory and non-factory environments with leadership and development activities to support the CoE and its stakeholders. The successful candidate will be a seasoned Lean practitioner who is motivated to grow into a formal leadership role and to mentor other Lean practitioners. This position will offer developmental opportunity for a high-performing practitioner who wants to build leadership experience while continuing to lead and deliver Lean transformations.

Requirements

  • 10+ years’ experience using Lean Manufacturing and/or continuous improvement practices and tools in the workplace
  • 10+ years of experience working in cross-functional teams
  • 10+ years of experience mentoring, coaching, guiding, and leading teams
  • 5+ years’ experience in aerospace, fabrication, or manufacturing environments
  • Willing and able to work variable shifts
  • This position must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements. To meet U.S. export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • 10+ years of experience in process improvement methodologies, particularly Lean, with a strong understanding of 5S and value stream mapping
  • 10+ years’ experience teaching Lean tools and concepts
  • 10+ years’ experience using the Boeing Problem Solving Model
  • Experience in a leadership role (i.e., manager, project manager, team lead, etc.,)

Responsibilities

  • Lead and facilitate Lean initiatives across programs and functions, both factory and non-factory
  • Serve as the CoE team lead for day-to-day Lean practitioner activities, guiding assignment priorities and supporting workload balancing
  • Apply Lean tools and methodologies (e.g., problem solving, Kaizen workshops, 3P, value stream mapping, process mapping, 5S) to identify and implement process improvements
  • Design, develop, and deliver Lean training and capability-building programs for employees at all levels; coach and mentor less experienced Lean practitioners
  • Develop and help deploy an integrated continuous improvement strategy
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration to drive replication and scaling of best practices across the organization
  • Use data analysis and metrics to measure success, track sustainability of improvements, and report outcomes
  • Prepare and present clear, concise progress and outcome reports to CoE leadership and senior management
  • Stay current on industry trends and leading practices in Lean
  • Act as a role model for Lean behaviors and help cultivate a culture of continuous improvement across the enterprise
  • Provide informal leadership and mentorship to a team of Lean practitioners; support their development plans, training, and career growth
  • Support the CoE senior manager (hiring manager) in prioritization, resource development, and strategic Lean deployment
  • Lead by example in stakeholder engagement, building credibility with program leadership, operations, and support functions
