About The Position

The Leadership Camp Coach is responsible for coaching, mentoring, and supporting youth participants in grades 6–12 during The NATIVE Project’s NATIVE Youth Leadership Camp. This position helps create a safe, positive, culturally grounded, and engaging environment where youth can build leadership skills, confidence, healthy relationships, and a connection to the community. The Leadership Camp Coach serves as a role model and mentor, supports daily camp activities, encourages participation, and helps ensure the camp program's overall success.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; some college coursework in education, social services, youth development, behavioral health, recreation, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with youth in grades 6–12 required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build rapport with youth and maintain professional, supportive relationships.
  • Ability to work effectively with youth from diverse backgrounds in a team-oriented environment.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn culturally responsive and trauma-informed approaches to working with youth.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to follow directions, remain flexible, and respond appropriately in active youth settings.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
  • Must be able to pass a urinalysis (UA) screening for illicit substances.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred, or ability to obtain as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in mentoring, coaching, youth programs, summer camps, education, prevention, recreation, or community-based programs preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a coach, mentor, and positive role model for youth participants in grades 6–12.
  • Build supportive, respectful, and encouraging relationships with camp youth.
  • Supervise and engage youth throughout camp activities, lessons, group discussions, cultural activities, recreation, field trips, and events.
  • Support implementation of camp curriculum, activities, and daily schedules.
  • Assist with leading small groups, team-building exercises, and leadership development activities.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive environment for all participants.
  • Encourage positive behavior, participation, teamwork, and respectful communication among youth.
  • Support youth in building self-confidence, leadership skills, cultural identity, and healthy decision-making.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and model positive behavior at all times.
  • Communicate concerns, incidents, behavioral issues, and youth needs promptly to camp leadership.
  • Assist with setup, cleanup, supplies, and general camp operations as assigned.
  • Attend required staff training, meetings, and orientation sessions prior to and during camp.
  • Follow all agency policies, procedures, safety standards, and youth protection expectations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of the camp program.
