About The Position

ZION PARK DISTRICT Job Title: Leader Camp Counselor – Shiloh Park Status of Employment: Part-Time/Seasonal Supervised by: Camp Director General Statement of Duties: Plans, organizes, implements, leads, and assist camp programs and activities; does related work as required. Distinguishing Features of the Position: The Lead Camp Counselor shall be responsible for the organization and leadership of the camp programs. Responsible for planning, organizing and implementing the day to day camp activities specific to the program.

Requirements

  • Completion of a standard High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Some college level credits in child care related classes or any equivalent combination of experiences and training which provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Must be able to make good decision following Park District policy and procedures.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Enthusiasm and passion or good work and continuous improvement.
  • The individual must have strong customer service, and organizational skills along with the ability to interact with parents, campers and other staff in a professional, courteous and helpful manner.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Arrives on time, in uniform and ready to work, as scheduled.
  • Leads, directs, and assists in the development and execution of programs and activities.
  • Effectively communicates, both verbally and in writing with supervisor, staff and parents.
  • Plans monthly lesson plans, snack schedule and newsletter.
  • Plans age-appriopate activities for students ages kindergarten thru 8th grade.
  • Compiles a daily log for use in disciplinary matters, if needed.
  • Supervised the daily maintenance of classroom including sanitizing tables and toys, putting supplies and toys in designated places.
  • Use appropriate and positive discipline with campers.
  • Attendance at staff meetings.
  • Takes a daily attendance, ensure all children attending are on roster for each program.
  • Service a daily snack, following all safety guidelines. Follows all Northern Bank reporting requirements.
  • Responsible to keep accurate account of all supplies and equipment in classroom.
  • Obtains classroom supplies as needed for camp.
  • Plans appropriate fieldtrips for camp, including in-house events at pool and garden.
  • Transport students in Park District vans or busses when appropriate.
  • Trains Camp Counselors and evaluates them at end of year.
