Carrier Clinic, a behavioral health system, has been a trusted source of compassionate help and supportive healing for patients and their families since we opened our doors in 1910. Hackensack Meridian Health Carrier Clinic’s East Mountain Youth Lodge provides a continuum of out of home residential treatment services for adolescents between the ages of 13-18. We provide 24 hour clinical, therapeutic treatment for emotional, behavioral, psychiatric and substance abuse difficulties based on the resident strengths and needs.

Requirements

  • IRTS Level of Care (Swan) & Non-IRTS programs Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience in behavioral health or other related healthcare field (Note this applies to team members hired after July 7, 2024).
  • PCH (Lotus, Sunflower), Co-Occurring (Wolf), RTC (Bear, Eagle, Butterfly) Bachelor's degree and 3 or more years of experience providing direct care to youth in a behavioral health agency or institutional setting.
  • Maintains standards of confidentiality.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
  • Valid Driver's License from a USA state.
  • AHA HeartSaver First Aid CPR AED Certification, or completed within the first 90 days of employment.

  • Enrollment in a nursing or social work degree program.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises and knows the whereabouts of every resident they are assigned.
  • Supervises, observes, and participates with residents in the carrying out of the daily routine (i.e. chores). Consistently implements all program procedures (i.e. point systems, level systems).
  • Runs activity, support, and recreation groups with guidance from clinical staff. Organizes, supervises, and conducts planned activities for groups and individuals. Assists residents in the planning of appropriate recreational activities
  • Serves as a primary counselor for an assigned number of residents.
  • Assists residents in learning home management skills (cooking, cleaning, etc). Teaches residents about the importance of cleanliness, good nutrition, meal planning, prudent buying, etc., while guiding them in learning skill mastery.
  • Corrects client behavior by administering reasonable and fair disciplinary measures when necessary. Ensures each resident is informed of the rules and regulations of the program.
  • Provides crisis intervention to residents as needed. Assists in escorts and personal restraints of agitated residents. Attentive to building security and performs such checks as designed by the program.
  • Conducts resident room checks and room searches as designed by the program
  • Carries a beeper for one week in rotation. Is on-call and ready to respond to staff shortages by calling and locating a replacement and/or filling the shift themselves
  • Inspects and handles belongings and valuables of residents to ensure that prohibited material is not brought into the Lodge at admission, upon return from pass, or as clinically indicated.
  • Assists residents with daily living activities (i.e.; waking up, hygiene, cleaning room, participating in structure, behaving appropriately on activity).
  • Provides input to administration members regarding unit-based PI measures based on concerns, high-risk, and high-volume issues.
  • Ensures that paperwork is completed accurately and within procedural time limits.
  • Assigns all responsibilities to 4 to 6 staff members.
  • Responsible for making sure shift overview sheets are filled out entirely and accordingly and all documentation required on the shift is completed.
  • Responsible for documenting all medically related information in the nursing notes.
  • Documenting a review of the shift in the communication book.
  • Reviewing all Behavior Modification logs on all residents for completion and accuracy.
  • Solely responsible for dispensing petty cash and completing all documentation to account for expenditures.
  • Solely responsible for all vehicle keys.
  • Reviews all incident reports for completion and accuracy.
  • Maintains the Maintenance Log.
  • Assists in data collection.
  • Orient new/transfer staff and students who are assigned to the unit during buddy orientation.
  • Supervises prospective and new employees following shadowing protocols.
  • Provides input on education and orientation programs.
  • Responsible for the special project/assignment which has been specifically tailored to the expertise and interests of the individual and the needs of the Lodge.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
