About The Position

In this role, you will lead, implement, and maintain global construction field welding programs and provide specialized welding engineering support. You will manage, inspect, and monitor the welding test lab, the rod room, the weld heat treatment program, and the laboratory quality plan. Your technical advice will help ensure defects, behaviors, and other issues are rectified prior to final inspection. Responsibilities include the development of work plans, coordinating materials, performing, and documenting inspections, reporting progress, and resolving conflicts in design and construction related to the installation and testing of commodities. Duties include interpreting design and vendor drawings and specifications. This position requires good planning and organizational skills, ability to perform detailed inspections and the ability to produce accurate, clear, and concise documentation. #LI-CL1

Requirements

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience​
  • PWHT Coordinator​
  • 12 - 14 years of industry experience performing and implementing Post Weld Heat Treatment on large-scale projects ​
  • NDE Level III​
  • Associates degree in engineering/science study from a 2-year technical college or university preferred plus 8 years' experience or 12 years' combined industry experience with NDE methods, writing procedures, and providing training
  • Acquiring Bechtel Level II VT NDE is a condition of employment. Preference to also have PT, MT, and RT Certs.
  • Knowledge of AWS, ASME, API, NFPA, AWWA, ASTM and ASNT codes, specifications, and standards.
  • Heavy industrial direct hire construction experience commensurate with the type of work to be undertaken.
  • Advanced knowledge and/or certifications in SMAW / GTAW / GMAW / FCAW.
  • Intermediate understanding of Preheat/Post weld heat treatment of equipment and consumables.
  • Knowledge of engineering and construction methods and processes customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate team members effectively & positively in a collaborative team environment. Demonstrated ability to problem-solve in high pressure situations.
  • Understanding of applicable Bechtel work processes including Standard Work Process Procedures.
  • Advanced knowledge of Piping Design Drawings/Specifications and Teamwork's/WITS.
  • Must be certified by written examination to Bechtel's nondestructive examination requirements as NDE Level II Visual Examination.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Bechtel's SWPP 4MP-T81-03701 Welding Program, 03708 Pre/Post Weld Heat Treatment and 03705 Welding & NDE Documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Implementing and maintaining Bechtel Field Welding program
  • Providing specialized welding engineering support for construction to ensure construction meets all code, engineering specifications and Bechtel procedures and standards.
  • Assisting in the management of the pre- and post-weld heat treatment program.
  • Assisting in the management of the rod room and rod room attendant to ensure all weld filler materials are controlled so to meet Bechtel, Code, and Client requirements.
  • Scheduling and coordinating NDE with construction and subcontractors for the most efficient NDE schedule at the least cost and least impact to construction.
  • Managing and monitoring the welding test lab to ensure high quality welders are being tested and hired.
  • Working with the team to review and keep up to date with weld documents and ensures the credibility/accountability of the Welding Program.
  • Managing issues and maintaining welder qualifications and welder stamps.
  • Performing field inspections of welding work and advises on rectification of quality behaviors and defects prior to final inspection.
  • May be responsible for the implementation and leads the subcontractors and direct hire Pre/PWHT program.
