About The Position

RRD is looking for an energetic, and highly motivated team member to join our team of Press Operators at our Elk Grove Village facility. The Press Operator 3 will operate web printing press to print quality production, maintain quality of product, lead and direct press crew, maintain press, and work on other operation duties as directed by the supervisors. Responsibilities include setting up, adjusting, operating, and maintaining various types of printing presses, performing make-ready tasks, making necessary color corrections, and ensuring the overall quality of the printed product.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working as a Press Operator 2 or 3 in Direct Mail or similar industry.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of a wide variety of techniques, procedures, materials, specifications, equipment, and safety requirements.
  • Skill in a wide variety of complex manipulations and mechanical procedures.
  • Skill to read and understand job specifications and knowledge of press capabilities.
  • Skill in use of a micrometer to mount and align the printing plate correctly.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Troubleshooting/problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 7-10 years of web press-printing experience.
  • Knowledge of in-line finishing, die cutting, inserters, imagers, color, and register.

Responsibilities

  • Operate web printing press to print quality production.
  • Maintain quality of product and lead/direct press crew.
  • Set up, adjust, operate, and maintain a Litho Press, In-line double web press, Harris M10, and a mini web 6 color web printing press.
  • Review job specifications to determine the press setup according to the imposition of the run.
  • Perform all make-ready tasks associated with the type of press operated.
  • Make necessary color corrections and/or press adjustments prior to production run.
  • Clean, lubricate, and maintain the press, making minor repairs and replacing worn or broken parts.
  • Perform periodic maintenance recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Act as a leader in providing and promoting a safe and injury-free work environment.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the operation of the press and press crew.
  • Responsible for overall quality of the printed product including color reproduction and product specifications.
  • Determine when product is suitable for saving.
  • Monitor other crew member's progress while performing their responsibilities.
  • Provide accurate documentation of time, materials, impressions, waste, and run speeds.
  • Communicate information effectively with other crews and departments.
  • Coordinate make-ready process by reviewing job information and assigning responsibilities to crew members.
  • Maintain a Preventive Maintenance Program for the press.
  • Share expertise and help train other employees as assigned.
  • Other responsibilities as required.
