About The Position

RRD is looking for an energetic, and highly motivated team member to Lead our Press Operators at our Elk Grove Village facility. The Press Operator 3 will operate various types of printing presses, including a Litho Press, In line double web press, Harris M10, and a mini web 6 color web printing press. Responsibilities include maintaining quality production, leading and directing the press crew, and performing other operational duties as directed by supervisors. The role requires setting up, adjusting, operating, and maintaining a gravure press or multi-color offset press to print various work types, ensuring quality specifications are met throughout the production process. The Press Operator 3 will also be responsible for maintaining a safe work environment, monitoring crew performance, and providing training to other employees as needed.

Requirements

• Previous experience working as a Press Operator 2 or 3 in Direct Mail or similar field.
• Comprehensive knowledge of techniques, procedures, materials, specifications, equipment, and safety requirements.
• Strong experience operating a Litho Press, In-line double web press, Harris M10, and a mini web 6 color web printing press.
• Skill in complex manipulations and mechanical procedures for equipment maintenance and adjustments.
• Ability to read and understand job specifications and knowledge of press capabilities.
• Skill in using a micrometer to mount and align the printing plate correctly.
• Strong communication skills.
• Troubleshooting/Problem-Solving Skills, Mechanical Aptitude, and Management skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate a Litho Press, In line double web press, Harris M10, and a mini web 6 color web printing press to print quality production.
• Set up, adjust, operate, and maintain a gravure press or multi-color offset press to print single-color, two-color, and/or multi-color work.
• Review job specifications to determine the press setup according to the imposition of the run.
• Perform all make-ready tasks associated with the type of press operated.
• Make necessary color corrections and/or press adjustments prior to production run.
• Clean, lubricate, and maintain the press, making minor repairs and replacing worn or broken parts as required.
• Perform periodic maintenance recommended by the manufacturer.
• Act as a leader in providing and promoting a safe and injury-free work environment.
• Responsible for all aspects of the operation of the press and press crew.
• Responsible for overall quality of the printed product including color reproduction and product specifications.
• Determine when product is suitable for saving.
• Responsible for producing a sample-quality product.
• Monitor other crew member's progress while performing their responsibilities.
• Provide accurate documentation of time, materials, impressions, waste, and run speeds.
• Communicate information effectively with other crews and departments.
• Coordinate make-ready process by reviewing job information and assigning responsibilities to crew members.
• Maintain a Preventive Maintenance Program for the press.
• Share expertise and help train other employees as assigned.
