The Lead Web Developer, Data Visualization, and AI Specialist at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is responsible for creating and maintaining interactive and functional websites using various web development languages and tools. This role emphasizes the integration of data visualization techniques and AI methodologies to enhance web applications and user experience. The position requires collaboration with internal teams to gather requirements and deliver web solutions that meet the needs of the School of Medicine.

  • Independently create, build, and maintain well-designed websites with effective interactive and transactional functions.
  • Build website back-end functionality using languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Java, and PHP.
  • Enhance user appeal and utility of web environments using contemporary development languages.
  • Lead the support of Content Management Systems and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).
  • Develop custom content types with the Terminal Four CMS environment.
  • Lead the development and execution of project work plans, revising as necessary in consultation with upper management.
  • Ensure documentation is up-to-date for technical work and processes.
  • Identify and address browser, client server, and internet systems specific architecture compatibility issues.
  • Conduct and maintain setup, installation, and management of software and applications as needed.
  • Create Data Visualization driven graphics, such as charts, plots, infographics, MP4 videos, and animations.
  • Work with department director, web designers, web editors, and other internal clients to create web-based solutions.
  • Create and edit imagery using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
  • Communicate and meet with web team and internal stakeholders to gather and refine requirements for web content development.
  • Plan, design, and implement web development application solutions, resolving bugs as needed.
  • Assist and train other staff associated with web development.
  • Recognize system deficiencies and implement effective solutions.
  • Interface backend databases (SQL and/or Oracle) with database administrators to maximize function and effectiveness of web applications.
  • Translate functional requirements into technical design and development projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Web Development, Computer Science, Systems Administration, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of related experience with knowledge of at least two (2) structured web development languages and relational database management systems.
  • Familiarity with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures, including JavaScript, PHP, Java, MySQL, C++, CGI, HTML/CSS, Microsoft Power BI, D3, TensorFlow, Pytorch, Plotly, Tableau, Python, Index Server, DALL-E, Chat GPT, Google Cloud, Grammarly, etc.
  • Equivalent of nine (9) years combination of formal information systems and web education, training, or experience with knowledge of at least (2) structured web development and relational database management systems.
  • Experience with back-end development for Terminal Four web content management system.
