About The Position

Under general supervision, performs repairs and preventative of all water and wastewater infrastructure. This includes, but is not limited to, water mains, water services, water taps, fire hydrants, valves, sewer mains, sewer services, manholes, and clean outs. Assists Water / Wastewater Crew Chief in the training and development of Apprentice Utility Technicians. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS : 1. Ability to follow written and oral directions. 2. Ability to use/operate various hand and power tools used in the repair and maintenance of the water and wastewater systems. 3. Ability to safely operate heavy equipment which includes, but is not limited to, front end loader, tractor/backhoe, tandem axle dump truck. 4. Ability to work on call schedule as assigned to respond to after-hour emergencies. 5. Ability to perform preventative maintenance on assigned equipment. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: 6. Ability to respond to after-hours emergencies as needed when not on call. 7. Ability to positively represent the City of Arlington and the Water Department in all interactions with others. 8. Ability to perform routine repairs without supervision. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : Ability to perform various physical movements including but not limited to carrying, crawling, dragging, lifting, bending, squatting, standing, twisting body, pulling, and/or pushing. Ability to work in an outdoor environment subject to dust and fumes. Exposure to electrical, mechanical, and/or explosive hazards is also common. Ability to work in inclement weather and extreme temperatures. Ability to lift or exert forces equivalent up to 90 lbs. Ability to work flexible hours as needed to respond to emergency situations. Ability to use a variety of hand-held or power tools Qualifying Education and Experience : High school diploma or GED, plus 3-years related experience is preferred. Ability to obtain a Texas Class “A” CDL with Tanker Endorsement and a Class C Water Distribution or Class III Wastewater Collections License with the first 6 months of employment.
