About The Position

The Lead Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for day-to-day technical operation of the Ultrasound Department and for performing diagnostic sonographic examinations. This position requires moderate independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative as well as providing guidance and training to technologists in order to maximize their development and growth.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
  • Graduate of an approved Ultrasound School.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in modality.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains adequate inventory of materials and various supplies and recommends procurement of necessary supplies.
  • Provides instruction to technologists and auxiliary personnel through formal and informal education.
  • Allocates work assignments and participates in staff training.
  • Assumes responsibility for proper and efficient operation and maintenance of all equipment and accessories.
  • Prepares schedules, and manages time keeping and 'on-call' coverage.
  • Maintains standards of safety throughout the department.
  • Performs procedures according to departmental format, completing exam in allotted time.
  • Performs required daily clerical duties, which include the use of EPIC, PACS, Teletracking System, computer system, patient scheduling, and other computer systems as added by Medical Center.
  • Performs portable ultrasound exams.
  • Performs a variety of complex technical tasks in Diagnostic Ultrasound.
  • Assists physicians with Ultrasound guided Interventional procedures, and color-flow ultrasound as required.
  • Determines, prepares, and sets up medical supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Prepares patients for diagnostic procedures, explains procedures, measures and positions patients for each anatomical view.
  • Evaluates technical quality of images.
  • Obtains and processes images of pathogenic conditions in accordance with standard procedures or techniques.
  • Maintains records of ultrasound taken, archiving and de-archiving data as required.
  • Calculates, compiles, and records data from numerical readings on patient's charts and related documents.
  • Calibrates, cleans, and performs routine maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Cleans and sterilizes instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Stocks and replenishes supplies as required.
  • Provides technical assistance and instruction to students, employees, and medical residents.
  • Greets all patients when they arrive for their exam utilizing A.I.D.E.T. standards.
  • Responsible for scheduled shifts including holidays and weekends.
  • Overtime as needed to provide continual quality patient care.
  • On call assignments as needed per Department of Radiology policy.
  • Adheres to the policies of Employee ID, Standards of Behavior, Attendance, and Punctuality.
  • Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs.
  • Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.
  • Performs specific daily and monthly QA.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
  • Lifts a minimum of 25 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 50 lbs. and stands a minimum of 6 hours a day.
