About The Position

The Lead Tunnel Engineer will play a crucial role in leading tunnel and shaft design for major underground projects in Los Angeles, California. This position involves working with the Geotechnical & Tunneling National Team to meet client objectives and solve engineering challenges. The engineer will be responsible for performing engineering analyses, preparing contract documents, and coordinating with various disciplines and clients.

Requirements

  • 7-10 years of relevant experience in geotechnical, tunneling and structural engineering.
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering (Preferred M.S. in Geotechnical or Structural Engineering).
  • Professional Engineer registration in California.
  • Proven experience in design and analysis of tunnels and shafts under seismic loadings.
  • Knowledge with tunneling/structural/geotechnical software (Plaxis, FLAC, ADINA, RS2/3, etc.).
  • Practical experience in preparing contract drawings, specifications and cost estimates of tunnel projects.
  • Ability and willingness for travel, field work, and work at project site.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead tunnel & shaft design on major underground projects involving TBM tunneling and underground structure design.
  • Perform engineering analysis for design of tunnels in soft ground, mixed conditions, and rock using various tunnel construction methods such as TBM and SEM.
  • Perform numerical analysis using FLAC/FLAC3D, PLAXIS/PLAXIS 3D or other software such as Visual Modflow.
  • Interpret geotechnical and geological data, characterize ground conditions and derive engineering parameters.
  • Prepare GBR, GDR, and various design memos.
  • Prepare contract documents including drawings and specifications.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines and clients.
