About The Position

The Lead Transportation Security Officer (LTSO) position at the Department of Homeland Security involves overseeing and leading a team of Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) at Merle K. (Mudhole) Smith Airport in Cordova, AK. The role is critical in ensuring the security of the transportation infrastructure, including airports, seaports, and public transit systems, while safeguarding the American way of life. The LTSO is responsible for implementing security procedures, managing workloads, and responding to security breaches and emergencies.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National status.
• At least 18 years of age at the time of application.
• Completion of a favorable Background Investigation (BI).
• Pass pre-employment drug screening and subject to post-employment random drug and alcohol testing.
• Selective Service registration is required.
• Ability to work various shifts and overtime as needed.
• Meet and maintain medical requirements for screening work, including physical abilities assessment.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in security work, aviation screener work, or X-ray technician work.
• Specialized experience in frontline security protection of air travelers and airports.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of at least three full-performance level Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) and assist with trainee and apprentice level TSOs.
• Identify, distribute, and balance workloads and tasks among employees according to established workflow and skill level.
• Provide input to supervisors regarding employee performance, promotions, and other human resources matters.
• Implement security screening procedures in accordance with TSA objectives and directives.
• Assist with investigations of incidents and prepare incident reports or documents as required.
• Respond to breaches of security and emergency situations.
• Train team members and monitor their work progress, representing the team in communications with supervisors.
