About The Position

This position involves designing transmission lines ranging from 69kV to 765kV. The role includes mentoring and training less experienced design team members, coordinating design activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and client requirements, and preparing technical reports and studies. Responsibilities also extend to performing independent reviews of work, including calculations, drawing preparation, and transmission line models using PLS-CADD, while adhering to Sargent & Lundy's System of Processes. The role offers a hybrid work arrangement, requiring three days in the office and allowing two days of remote work, with a generous relocation package available depending on location. Furthermore, the position expects the incumbent to lead others in leveraging modern tools, including automation and AI, to enhance workflows, minimize rework, and deliver cost-effective designs. This includes directing process-improvement initiatives, guiding the application of AI or agentic AI tools, and ensuring the accuracy of results.

Requirements

  • BS degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
  • 12 or more years of transmission design experience.
  • Proficiency with PLS-CADD software.
  • Experience must include preparation of scopes of work, development of conceptual designs, determination of design basis, the selection of equipment and materials, and the preparation and assembling of calculations and specifications.
  • Experience working directly with clients on transmission lines from 69kV through 500kV.
  • Knowledge of engineering standards including NESC, IEC, ASCE, ACI, IEEE and ANSI.
  • Experience reviewing design drawings created by others.
  • Willingness or ability to lead others who use modern tools.
  • Expected to lead others in taking engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs.

  • Perform independent reviews of work performed by others including calculations, drawing preparation, and transmission line models based in PLS-CADD.
  • Adhere to Sargent & Lundy's System of Processes.
  • Lead others in taking engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs.
  • Direct automation and process-improvement work, for example, how teams automate calculations, summarize technical documents, or generate design documentation and guiding when and how AI or agentic AI tools are used while ensuring results are checked.
