About The Position

Manage and lead a group of journeymen toolmakers and apprentices. Execute assignments related to tooling functions, supervise the activities of skilled employees and assure the accomplishment of the assigned tasks. Plan the performance of preventative maintenance activities based upon personal knowledge and interval records of tooling wear and the manufacturer’s recommendations of tooling components regarding service. Schedule and coordinate the accomplishment of this work to minimize interference with operations. Ensures maximum uptime for all injection molding tooling. Improves / maintain tooling to minimize wear / breakage while ensuring the lowest amount of scrap due to tooling. Develop and maintain key, preferred suppliers and spare part inventories. Work with Product Designers, Tooling Engineers, and Process Engineers to provide input regarding manufacturing capability on concept or current tooling. Read and interpret blueprints or work from verbal or written instructions specific to tooling. Document and maintain records of maintenance, repair and changes of all tooling. Coordinate with Operational Plans (i.e.: Cost Reduction Goals, Quality-Delivery-Cost of Launch. Work with Product Designers, Tooling Engineers, and Process Engineers to provide input regarding manufacturing capability on concept or current tooling. Read and interpret blueprints or work from verbal or written instructions specific to tooling. Document and maintain records of maintenance, repair and changes of all tooling. Coordinate with Operational Plans (i.e.: Cost Reduction Goals, Quality-Delivery-Cost of Launch. Demonstrate solid skills in communication, interpersonal relations, and ability to inspire individuals to improve performance. Understand injection molding processing, including scientific molding concepts. Determine specifications for inspection of work, using precision measuring and gauging tools, perform required inspection before, during and after machining. · Proven mechanical aptitude for analytical problem solving. Perform hand operations involved in producing jigs, fixtures, tools and dyes. Use hand tools of the trade. Must be able to do minor installation and repair of electrical, hydraulic or pneumatic components. Must have an expect working knowledge of all mold components (hot runner systems, valve gate systems, pressure transducers, etc.).

Requirements

  • Education Level: Bachelor's Level Degree Area of Study: Engineering or similar. Equivalent work experience may also be considered for certain positions.
  • 5-9 Minimum Years of Experience with Tooling.
  • 3-5 Minimum Years of Experience within the automotive industry.
  • Must be able and willing to travel and work at customer sites, including industrial manufacturing plants which might require climbing, lifting, or working in confined spaces.

Nice To Haves

  • Journeyman Toolmaker Certification.
  • Completion of formal apprenticeship program resulting in a Journeymen Level Tool and Die Maker.
