About The Position

TRC Field Services (FSV) is seeking Lead Commissioning Engineers to support Client Teams across the Mid-Atlantic region. With a staff of over 200 experienced utility and industrial commissioning engineers and test technicians, TRC delivers comprehensive, cost-effective solutions safely to Electric Utility Customers while providing the best training programs and mentors in the industry. The role involves planning, coordinating, performing, and documenting all commissioning activities of various utility substation protection, control, and power circuits in accordance with TRC's and Client's requirements.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Electrical or Power Systems preferred) from an accredited school or University.
  • 10+ years related experience with testing and commissioning services.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand construction and manufacturer’s drawings and specifications as well as schematic diagrams.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical protection systems, including relay communication.
  • Prior professional experience in medium and high voltage substation and power plant equipment.
  • Solid testing and commissioning knowledge of substation utility protection and control circuits.
  • Test experience using Doble Protection Suite and/or ProTest, SEL AcSELerator, Enoserv RTS are highly preferred.
  • Current US work eligibility and a valid USA driver's license in good standing.
  • Must be available for out-of-town travel of up to several weeks at a time.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours, weekends, overtime holidays and night work.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, perform and document all commissioning activities (pre-commissioning, through construction, testing - commissioning, energization - project close out) of various utility substation protection, control and power circuits.
  • Review wiring diagrams, schematics, engineering documents in advance of projects and outages.
  • Perform trouble-shooting and problem analysis associated with protection and control systems and utility substation equipment.
  • Participate in project meetings including kickoff meetings, planning meetings, progress meetings, lessons learned meetings.
  • Prepare detailed daily, weekly, and project completion reports and documentation.
  • Assist in developing project specific testing and commissioning plans, energization plans, or any other assigned project specific documentation.
  • Identify risks and associated mitigation techniques on utility systems and equipment.
  • Make certain all applicable tests and/or commissioning activities are performed on every piece of equipment or system.
  • Develop detailed test reports of various types of electrical equipment.
