About The Position

Lead Technologist responsible for providing technical leadership across turbine generator projects, from specification and design review through installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and lifecycle maintenance. Serves as the primary technical authority for rotating equipment, coordinates suppliers and cross-functional teams. Balances hands-on field execution with engineering rigor to deliver safe, reliable, and commercially-sound outcomes on schedule and within scope. FTAI owns and maintains commercial jet engines with a focus on the Maintenance, Repair and Exchange (MRE) of CFM56 and V2500 engines. FTAI’s propriety portfolio of products, including The Module Factory and a joint venture to distribute engine PMA helps make CFM56 and V2500 engine maintenance simpler, more cost-effective, significantly faster, and more environmentally friendly. Additionally, FTAI owns and leases jet aircraft which often facilitates the acquisition of engines at attractive prices. Requirements

  • Associate's in science degree (Mechanical or Electrical preferred) or equivalent technical experience.
  • Experience: 5 to 10+ years of direct experience in rotating equipment design, operation, or maintenance.
  • Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of turbine technology (gas or steam), including auxiliaries (lubrication, cooling, control systems).
  • Hands-on experience CFM56 engines. Familiar with servicing, performing inspections, troubleshooting, and system verifications. Experience: 5 to 10+ years of direct experience in rotating equipment design, operation, or maintenance.
  • Calibration: Experience performing calibrations following detailed manuals and OEM procedures.
  • Code Familiarity:  Proficiency in industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, ISO, NFPA).
  • Software Proficiency: Experience with engineering, CAD, or PLM software.
  • Strong professional, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Customer-focused with a strong commercial mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Project Leadership: Act as the technical lead for turbine-generator installations, upgrades, and maintenance projects, ensuring adherence to scope, schedule, and quality.
  • Engineering & Design Review: Develop and review technical specifications for turbine packages, including P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), schematics, and equipment layouts.
  • Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis: Provide expert guidance in diagnosing high-impact mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical failures and lead troubleshooting efforts.
  • Technical writing:  Work with SME’s to develop, write, and edit high-quality documentation, including user manuals, maintenance manuals, and service bulletins.
  • Quality Assurance: Test the accuracy of the technical documentation while using the product and launch root cause corrective actions as necessary to ensure high product quality and improved performance.
  • Supplier Coordination:  Coordinate with suppliers for procurement.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies, as well as NERC/WECC regulations, participating in risk assessments.
  • Mentorship: Train and mentor junior technicians and engineers on equipment operations and technical best practices.
