About The Position

The Lead Technician works on customer sites in a variety of environments including new construction, remodels, and operating facilities. This position is also responsible for complying with Encore standards for Safety, Culture and Customer Service. The role requires working independently or as part of a team, understanding and following safety guidelines, and ensuring others follow appropriate protocols. Lead Technicians must understand scopes of work and effectively complete associated tasks, as well as understand and use common industry tools, including applicable testing equipment. A key aspect of the role is efficiently leading different sized projects and/or more than one crew, communicating, educating, and delegating effectively. Specific responsibilities for a Structured Cabling Lead include reading and interpreting detailed specifications, drawings, blueprints, schematics, and method of procedures (MOPs), and demonstrating knowledge of closet build outs. This position involves installing various cable types such as low voltage power, fiber, twisted pair, audio, video, DAS, and security, for both inside and outside plant applications. The Lead Technician will use a variety of connector types, terminate to industry standards, and test copper and fiber using industry approved testers, including setting up testing units and downloading results. Installation of various types of pathways for horizontal and backbone cables, strong knowledge of troubleshooting cable plant and associated equipment, and completing detailed documents of work performed with daily status updates are also required. General responsibilities for a Lead include the ability to train and mentor junior technicians on installation standards, methods, and company requirements, working within time and budget restraints, and providing site supervision with direction from a Senior Tech or Project Manager. They will also perform close-out documentation procedures, assist with material procurement, conduct crew safety training, and promote a strong culture of Health and Safety.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Pass a functional physical before work can be performed in all field positions
  • Demonstrated knowledge of closet build outs
  • Strong knowledge of troubleshooting cable plant and associated equipment
  • Knowledge of Constructability and the construction process
  • Knowledge of MS Office Software and other misc. computer programs
  • Knowledge of Blueprint drawings and how it applies to the project
  • Knowledge of Reading blueprint drawings
  • Knowledge of Wiring diagrams
  • Knowledge of Schematics
  • Knowledge of Low voltage systems
  • Knowledge of Basic network principles
  • Knowledge of Basic technology principles and standards

Nice To Haves

  • Three to five years of experience in a Technology Construction related field is preferred
  • Formal education in Electronics or related fields is also preferred

  • Terminate indoor and outdoor fiber using the appropriate methods and following industry standards
  • Testing copper and fiber using industry approved testers. Knowledge of setting up testing units and downloading results as required
  • Installation of various types of pathways related to running horizontal and backbone cables
  • Strong knowledge of troubleshooting cable plant and associated equipment
  • Complete detailed documents of work performed and provide daily status updates
  • Ability to train and mentor junior technicians on installations standards and methods, as well as company related requirements
  • Work within time and budget restraints
  • Provide site supervision of the installation team with direction from the Senior Tech or Project Manager
  • The ability to perform close-out documentation procedures as well as daily/weekly company documentation requirements
  • Ability to procure materials collaboratively through Operations/Project Management for project related needs
  • Crew Safety training and PPE assignment required to meet or exceed customer, industry, GC, and local jurisdiction requirements
  • Always Promote a strong culture of Health and Safety
  • Read and interpret electronic schematics, installation drawings and architectural blueprints
  • Assist with basic mechanical fabrication, as necessary
  • Other duties may be assigned
