The Lead Technician, Collections-Fixed Site role involves qualifying donors, performing all blood collection procedures, leading day-of-drive teams, performing charge tasks, and identifying/addressing site-specific issues including maintenance, utility, and safety concerns. The role also includes providing support, development, and leadership guidance to volunteers.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience required
  • Minimum one year of healthcare experience (RN/LPN, EMT, or Medical Assistant) or minimum one year of documented satisfactory performance in the previous level within the job family or equivalent experience required
  • Ability to work on a team
  • Customer service skills including effective verbal communication and public relations required
  • Applicable local licensure if required by state directives
  • Operational flexibility is required to meet sudden and unpredictable needs
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to squat, push, or pull heavy weights up and down ramps and stairs
  • Good manual dexterity
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to adapt to long, irregular hours and frequent schedule changes
  • Ability to push carts up to 250 lbs.
  • Ability to set up beds
  • Ability to handle many totes containing equipment and snacks for the donors

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Basic computer skills preferred

Responsibilities

  • Qualify donors and perform all blood collection procedures
  • Lead day-of-drive teams and perform charge tasks when assigned
  • Responsible for identifying and addressing site-specific issues (including site maintenance, utility issues, and safety concerns)
  • Provide support, development, and/or leadership guidance to all volunteers
  • Perform any or all blood collection procedures, including allogeneic, autologous, directed, therapeutic, automated red cell, and mini-mobile and platelet apheresis
  • Ensure the team successfully performs collections that meet patient needs, such as maintaining split rate and right-type mix
  • Perform standard collection tasks such as, drive set up/function checks, donor reaction care, collection set labeling, discontinuing (disengagement), post-collection donor care, and post-collection blood processing
  • May perform competency assessments as necessary or directed
