The Lead Technician, Collections-Fixed Site role involves qualifying donors, performing all blood collection procedures, leading day-of-drive teams, performing charge tasks, and identifying/addressing site-specific issues including maintenance, utility, and safety concerns. The role also includes providing support, development, and leadership guidance to volunteers.

Requirements

Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience required
Minimum one year of healthcare experience (RN/LPN, EMT, or Medical Assistant) or minimum one year of documented satisfactory performance in the previous level within the job family or equivalent experience required
Ability to work on a team
Customer service skills including effective verbal communication and public relations required
Applicable local licensure if required by state directives
Operational flexibility is required to meet sudden and unpredictable needs
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to squat, push, or pull heavy weights up and down ramps and stairs
Good manual dexterity
Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
Ability to adapt to long, irregular hours and frequent schedule changes
Ability to push carts up to 250 lbs.
Ability to set up beds
Ability to handle many totes containing equipment and snacks for the donors

Basic computer skills preferred

Responsibilities

Qualify donors and perform all blood collection procedures
Lead day-of-drive teams and perform charge tasks when assigned
Responsible for identifying and addressing site-specific issues (including site maintenance, utility issues, and safety concerns)
Provide support, development, and/or leadership guidance to all volunteers
Perform any or all blood collection procedures, including allogeneic, autologous, directed, therapeutic, automated red cell, and mini-mobile and platelet apheresis
Ensure the team successfully performs collections that meet patient needs, such as maintaining split rate and right-type mix
Perform standard collection tasks such as, drive set up/function checks, donor reaction care, collection set labeling, discontinuing (disengagement), post-collection donor care, and post-collection blood processing
May perform competency assessments as necessary or directed
