GLIDE’s mission is to create a radically inclusive, just, and loving community mobilized to alleviate suffering and break the cycles of poverty and marginalization Position Summary: The Afterschool Program Lead Teacher supports and assists with ensuring the effective daily operations of an After-School Program and its classroom(s) by, ensuring the health and safety of program participants, and promoting their growth and development by providing high quality, age, developmental, and culturally appropriate curriculum and activities. These activities should lead participants in a “child-centered” environment resulting in their self-definition and self-empowerment. This person must be able to work a flexible schedule (some evenings); regular and predictable attendance is essential.

Requirements

  • Must be able to receive Dept. of Justice Fingerprint clearance.
  • Demonstrated commitment to empowering children. Has the ability to foster a love of learning, cultivate self-esteem, and develop a sense of civic responsibility.
  • Leadership and supervisory skills and experiences.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision and within a team approach. Understanding of when to consult and ask for guidance.
  • Strong organization and planning abilities. Has the ability to prioritize work and the ability to multi-task within specific timelines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, grammar, spelling and writing.
  • Strong understanding of what comprises confidential issues and materials, demonstrated ability to consistently act with discretion.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • This person is reflective. This person models appropriate interactions, including factual commenting, redirecting behavior, and problem solving.
  • This person takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect children, staff and volunteers, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Has the ability to work effectively across all cultures.
  • Commitment to the mission, values and philosophy of GLIDE.
  • Some college experience and 3+ years’ experience teaching or working with children; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must pass tuberculosis screening.
  • Must show proof of pertussis, influenza and measles immunizations.
  • Must have/complete CPR and First Aid Training.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years’ adult supervisory experience and experience supervising large groups of children (15-40) preferred
  • Experience developing curriculum and programs for children.
  • Experience working in a community-based social service agency with people in relationship with homelessness and poverty and the problems that often come alongside these experiences.

Responsibilities

  • With others, develop, implement, maintain, and evaluate age and culturally appropriate experiential learning curriculum.
  • Develop or resource activities that improve skills, build self-confidence and cultivate a love of learning, e.g., critical thinking skills. Lead classes, outdoor activities and field trips.
  • Ensure the preparation of healthy snacks/meals while maintaining all food safety prep/cleanliness protocols.
  • Ensure positive social development by creating safe physical, social and emotional learning environments at all times.
  • Maintain a safe Program. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect children, equipment, materials, and classrooms both indoors and outdoors. Ensure all learning areas are clean and orderly at all times.
  • Establish and promote productive relationships with parents/guardians that support Program goals and FYCC’s mission.
  • Assist with planning and implementing Special Events.
  • Assist the Childcare Site Supervisor/Director by preparing documentation and meeting all reporting requirements as needed; including but not limited to child assessments and portfolios, monthly sign in/out sheets, ETO data requirements.
  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, attending and actively participating in staff and individual meetings.
  • Directly supervise volunteers and interns. Assist with training and ensure standards and practices are adhered to at all times.
  • Plan, assign, direct, and evaluate staff’s work. Provide ongoing feedback and assist with goals work and annual performance reviews.
