About The Position

The Lead Teacher for Early Head Start (EHS) will provide care for infants and toddlers in assigned groups and will plan, supervise, and implement the education program within the classroom in accordance with the policies, procedures, and philosophy of MAAC Child Development Program’s Early Head Start. This federally funded program serves eligible and special needs children aged 0-3 years and pregnant women. The Lead Teacher will ensure that children and their families receive comprehensive services to promote optimum physical, cognitive, social, and emotional growth.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Twelve (12) units in Early Childhood Education (ECE), including core units and three (3) units in infant/toddler coursework.
  • One (1) year experience with children 0-3 years old in a childcare setting.
  • Must have and maintain a State of California Child Development Associate Level Permit or a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.
  • Valid CPR, First Aid, and Food Handlers certifications must be obtained within the first two months of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • AA Degree with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education or Child Development with a minimum of twenty-four (24) units in ECE.
  • BA Degree with emphasis in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.
  • Bilingual (English / Spanish) speaking, reading, and writing preferred.
  • Knowledge of Head Start policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary caregiver to assigned infants/toddlers, providing respectful individualized care including feeding, diapering, and holding.
  • Assist with assigning children to primary care groups and planning individualized transitions into care.
  • Partner with parents to provide consistent and culturally sensitive care through daily communication, home visits, and parent conferences.
  • Plan and implement age-appropriate individual and small group activities, including daily indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Set up, tear down, and clean up indoor and outdoor play spaces.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of classroom and outside play areas, including sanitizing toys and equipment.
  • Prepare and serve meals and snacks according to individual feeding plans.
  • Document care and developmental activities on individual daily records and record-keeping documents for each child.
  • Accurately track attendance and meal counts.
  • Lift, carry, and hold children weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Schedule and complete home visits at convenient times for parents; develop and update Individual Child Plans and Family Development Plans.
  • Attend mandated trainings, programs, conferences, and meetings.
  • Assist with personalized services for special needs children.
