This role requires strong supervisory and management skills to effectively lead staff and coordinate a team of volunteers.

Requirements

  • Licensed Tax Consultant or as an IRS-certified volunteer tax preparer or ability to become an IRS-certified volunteer tax preparer
  • Strong knowledge of federal and Oregon tax codes, particularly as they impact low-income populations
  • Clear understanding of income and wealth disparities across economics, race, and gender, and how these inequities affect under-resourced communities
  • Experience providing instruction and or training to volunteers.
  • Ability to make good decisions in a stressful, fast paced, environment
  • Ability to effectively manage and disseminate confidential and sensitive information
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with management, volunteers, direct service staff and external organizations to meet mission aligned goals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing across all agency program areas
  • Experience in trauma-informed approaches to case management
  • Ability to recognize and manage critical incidents in compliance with mandatory reporting requirements
  • Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries and uphold confidentiality standards
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve conflicts proactively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and general computer literacy.

  • Personal transportation allowing for travel within the Portland Metropolitan area in a timely manner. If driving a personal vehicle must maintain a valid driver license for the state of residency, personal auto liability insurance coverage and a driving record permitting coverage under the agency auto liability policy.
  • MFS requires all employees and volunteers to complete a criminal background check. We review the results of all background checks individually and consider all of the circumstances of any issues that arise in a background check during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision and Management: Work collaboratively and in alignment with the CASH management team to ensure consistent communication, unified decision-making, and the promotion of an inclusive, respectful workplace culture.
  • Work collaboratively with other Tax and Financial Services Coordinators to achieve programmatic goals
  • Supervise Tax and Financial Services Coordinator(s), client facilitators, interpreters, and a volunteer base. Provide mentorship and guidance to staff and volunteers ensuring effective operations. contract compliance, and mission alignment.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to and de-escalate on-site emergencies involving clients and volunteers, maintaining a safe and supportive environment.
  • Team Coordination: Organize the hiring process for tax site staff, and coordinate a volunteer team to ensure robust tax services.
  • Training Development: Collaborate with the volunteer development team to create training content and facilitate training workshops for volunteers, enhancing their skills and effectiveness.
  • Communication and Logistics: Manage office needs at the Plaza site, including supplies and equipment, while effectively communicating operational requirements.
  • Quality Assurance: Oversee and provide quality reviews on tax returns year-round, ensuring compliance with federal and Oregon tax codes, particularly for low to moderate income families.
  • Financial Services Implementation: Implement financial service activities at tax sites, including disbursal of prepaid debit cards and information on savings programs.
  • Client Interaction: Skillfully triage issues with clients, balancing multiple tasks and demands in a fast-paced environment while providing excellent customer service.
  • Collaboration: Serve on the Operations Committee and prepare materials and resources for tax sites, supporting MFS CASH Oregon's cross-program initiatives.
  • Facilitate ITIN services: Oversee and provide ITIN application services - Acting as a Certified Acceptance Agent.
  • Attend supervision meetings with the CASH Operations Manager
  • Additional Duties: Support other tax sites as needed and perform other duties as assigned.
