About The Position

The Lead, Systems Engineer performs all tasks related to review, analysis, and development of tactical data link (TDL) MIL-STD documentation for the Integrated Broadcast System (IBS) program. These duties are, but not limited to the following: Investigates technical deficiencies in the MIL-STD documentation and uses problem solving skills to develop solutions that will have minimal impact on operational systems. Participates in various working group meetings and develops proposals to address the TDL concerns of various Department of War (DOW) programs and services. Coordinates with representatives from various DOW services and agencies to develop MIL-STD enhancements or corrections that satisfy the requirements of all TDL users. Represents the organization as a subject matter expert on IBS MIL-STD requirements as well as for TDL data forwarding requirements. Frequently interacts directly with DOW customer representatives and fields questions from all users of the TDL MIL-STD documents. The engineer prepares and presents technical briefs to internal and external leadership. Mentors junior level engineers to develop and enhance systems engineering skills required by the IBS program.

Requirements

  • The candidate must possess strong technical writing and verbal skills.
  • The candidate must possess an understanding of Tactical Data Link (TDL) operations and a familiarity with IBS Common Message Format (CMF) and/or Link 16 message formats.
  • The candidate must have knowledge of systems engineering concepts and practices.
  • Candidate must have proficiency with Microsoft Office products (especially MS Word and MS Excel).
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Candidate must be willing to travel (mostly CONUS with occasional OCONUS)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, or equivalent technical degree with a minimum of 9 years of applicable experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience. Candidates with fewer years of experience may be considered for a lower level.
  • 5+ years of experience on tactical data link engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience with Tactical Data Link (TDL) operations, familiarity with Intgrated Broadcast Service (IBS) Common Message Format (CMF) and/or Link 16 message formats.
  • Active Secret Clearance required at the time of hire, with the ability to obtain TS/SCI.
  • Must be a US Citizen.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of Mil-Standards 6016, 6018 and 6020.
  • Some experience writing software.
