THE ROLE: AMD’s GPU Systems Firmware team is looking for an experienced Lead System Firmware Engineer to lead, debug and integrate firmware solutions for components in the AMD MI SOCs. The engineer will lead the integration, release and support resolving complex technical issues in the GPU firmware stack. Expect high intensity daily triaging and rapid communication of status in cross component debug engagements. THE PERSON: You are passionate about firmware debug and triaging with creative and effective problem-solving skills, a motivated, self-starter who can work both independently and collaboratively in fast paced environments. The successful candidate will have a strong background on structure problem-solving and debug skills to support cross engineering team within AMD. You have excellent technical communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.

Requirements

  • Extensive related firmware experience combined with technical education within the semiconductor industry
  • Proven ability to lead platform‑level debug efforts to identify root causes and drive resolution of issues
  • Strong proficiency in embedded firmware development and hardware/software interface integration.
  • Solid foundation in computer architecture, including memory interleaving, system memory maps, and NUMA domain concepts.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (preferred) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
  • This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands‑on experience debugging Reliability, Availability, and Serviceability (RAS) features.
  • Experience with Machine Check Architecture (MCA) and Machine Check Exception (MCE) validation and debugging.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Lead Engineer for the design, development, debugging, verification, and validation of firmware and its interaction with software, and/or hardware components
  • Support both pre‑silicon and post‑silicon bring‑up efforts, collaborating closely with firmware, BIOS, and silicon teams to enable new features
  • Facilitate and drive technical discussions to resolve complex engineering issues and advance project initiatives
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate firmware design documentation, specifications, and implementation notes
  • Participate in system architecture reviews and support firmware requirements analysis
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineering team members, fostering best practices and high‑quality design standards
