About The Position

Hawthorn Farm Athletic Club in Hillsboro, OR, is seeking a dedicated and professional Lead Swim Instructor to join our team. This Leader will coordinate group and private swim lessons, coach the Hawthorn Hammerheads Swim Team, and directly teach lessons. The required schedule is 3-8 pm Tuesday to Friday and 9-5 pm Saturday, f or a part-time position of 28 hours. Additional Tues - Saturday hours are available for a full-time position. Compensation is a blend of hourly supervisory work, including customer service, staff scheduling, payroll, equipment inventory, and facility care, and related, plus instructional pay, which is based on the type of lesson being taught and the number of students enrolled. This is a great role combining strong customer service, team leadership, and administrative skills, with a love of swimming. You will also teach swimming lessons and promote water safety for our strong community of adult swimmers and kids of all ages and skill levels. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about helping others develop confidence in the water, whether guiding beginners through foundational skills or supporting experienced swimmers in refining their technique. Compensation- $20 - $25 hourly for lead responsibilities, BOE. $17 - $38 hourly for instruction

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in aquatic instruction, swim programming, or lifeguarding.
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience in aquatics, fitness, recreation, or hospitality.
  • Current lifeguard and CPR/AED certifications preferred—or willingness to obtain within 60 days of hire.
  • Strong organizational, software, and time management skills, with the ability to learn HFAC's software and systems and act under pressure.
  • Able to work on-site in Hillsboro, OR, and lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
  • Excellent communication skills are necessary for teaching and interacting effectively with students.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to create engaging and impactful lesson plans.
  • Holding a U.S. work Authorization is a must.

Nice To Haves

  • A current swim certification and/or teaching experience are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Take incoming swim lesson inquiries and registration.
  • Place students in appropriate classes, completing all needed customer service and administration.
  • Train swim instructors to HFAC level standards to ensure all instructors, including yourself, maintain protocols and deliver safe and engaging group lessons.
  • Provide swimming lessons to individuals of various ages and skill levels, emphasizing water safety and proper swimming techniques.
  • Regularly assess student progress and lead the program's lesson progression.
  • Ensure a safe and hygienic aquatic environment through routine pool inspections, adherence to safety protocols, and enforcement of member policy.
  • Oversee employee schedules and coordination, submit payroll reports.
  • Foster a positive team dynamic.
