Requirements

  • High School or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Scrub Tech.
  • Certified Surgical Techologist (CST) or NCCT.
  • Complete 15 hours of continuing education to remain qualified to practice as a surgical technologist in the state of New Jersey.
  • BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.
  • Demonstrated leadership & customer service skills; instrument handling/cleaning, & understanding of patient flow.

Nice To Haves

  • Sterile Processing Certification.

Responsibilities

  • The Lead Surgical Technician is responsible for assisting in patient care and preparation of surgical patients by performing routine and delegated duties according to standards and policies of the surgical center.
  • Coordinates all training, orientation, and precepting of new Surgical Technologists.
  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive orientation program for Surgical Technologists and yearly competencies.
  • Perform scrub duties and related procedures.
  • Assist with circulating duties under the direct supervision of the RN circulator assigned to the patient.
  • Assist with cleaning and maintenance supplies and equipment as required.
  • Function in the advanced roles of preceptor, service specialist, and instrument room liaison.
