About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. This Lead Substance Abuse Worker position is located at the DART Center (Goldsboro, NC), a 300-bed residential treatment facility responsible for the delivery of chemical dependency treatment services to probationers and parolees. Rehabilitation and Reentry Treatment staff plans, administers, and coordinates chemical dependency screening and substance use disorder treatment services within the Department of Adult Correction. The Lead Substance Abuse Worker must effectively communicate and continuously establish good working relationships with co-workers and other professionals involved in the treatment of substance use disorders. This position requires shift work, involving proper monitoring of resident behavior and activities, and sufficient documentation of all incidents and medical emergencies by completing essential shift reports. Responsibilities also include ensuring adequate facility coverage of SAW staff by reviewing and adjusting work schedules, accounting for the safety and security of residents and staff, executing safety procedures and plans in the event of medical emergencies or other crises, and ensuring pertinent mission-critical information is communicated to the On-Call Clinician, On-Call Manager, Probation/Parole contact, and the oncoming shift LSAW.

Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma
A valid driver’s license
No active disciplinary actions at time of placement

Responsibilities

Applying intervention techniques when needed.
Setting up, cleaning up, and maintaining the food service and equipment areas.
Administering medications as directed by medical staff.
Loading and unloading facility supplies, as needed.
Transporting residents from across the state to this facility, which may occur at any hour of the day or night while on duty.
Monitoring the security of buildings, grounds, and vehicles.
Thoroughly understanding the security and emergency procedures of the facility.
Properly monitoring resident behavior and activities.
Completing essential shift reports for documentation of all incidents and medical emergencies.
Ensuring adequate facility coverage of SAW staff by reviewing and adjusting work schedules of available SAW staff as well as Lead SAW staff.
Accounting for safety and security of residents and staff.
Executing safety procedures and plans in the event of medical emergency or other crises.
Ensuring pertinent mission critical information is communicated to the On-Call Clinician, On-Call Manager, Probation/Parole contact, and the oncoming shift LSAW.
