About The Position

Summary: As a member of the Division of Student Success at Illinois Central College, the Lead Student Success Advisor is essential in fostering positive student interactions, enhancing student-centered processes, cultivating a sense of belonging, and collaborating to support student success. Reporting directly to the Director of Academic Advisement and focused on student success and retention, this position helps to advance departmental and divisional goals while supporting the college’s overall mission and strategic priorities. The Lead Student Success Advisor will supervise Student Success Advisors within the assigned advising cluster, providing mentorship and support in holistic advising approaches and coaching methods. The Lead Student Success Advisor will assist the Director of Advisement in the analysis of student success data and the planning and delivery of advisement initiatives to positively impact student success. The Lead Student Success Advisor will also manage an identified caseload of students towards completion of their academic, career, and personal goals. Compensation for the Lead Student Success Advisor - Health Careers is $49,899.20-$57,366.40.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Three years of experience in academic advising/coaching, student retention, or related student affairs experience, or comparable combination of education and experience.
• Ability to relate to students of diverse backgrounds and experiences and a commitment to student equity.
• Knowledge of Microsoft applications and ability to use technology effectively in the execution of job duties.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with others.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling or similar.
• Five years of experience in academic advising/coaching.
• Three years of community college work experience.
• Knowledge of college student development theories and familiarity with intrusive, holistic student advising.
• Two years of supervisory experience.
• Familiarity with change management.
• Experience with PeopleSoft.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate student success by offering personalized support, guiding students to resources, and acknowledging each student's unique story.
• Enhance student success by identifying and providing feedback on process improvements and utilizing data as needed to ensure that resources and services effectively meet student needs.
• Support student success by collaborating to ensure coordinated efforts in addressing student needs and enhancing overall outcomes.
• Advance student success by engaging in ongoing professional development and growth opportunities to stay current with best practices and effectively address evolving student needs.
• Supervise Student Success Advisors in the assigned cluster, providing guidance to ensure consistent advising practices.
• Conduct annual performance reviews in line with Human Resources policies.
• Ensure Student Success Advisors in the cluster understand changes and can advise students appropriately.
• Proactively communicate questions, issues, and concerns regarding cluster programs from students and student success advisors to academic leaders.
• Be available during scheduled hours, which will include evenings, virtual office hours, and weekends during peak enrollment periods.
• Comply with blackout periods during peak times.
• Develop collaborative relationships and consult regularly with program leaders, academic deans, transfer institutions, and other College personnel to maintain up-to-date information regarding program requirements, transfer opportunities, departmental policies, and other program-specific details.
• Serve as a liaison between direct reports and the Director.
• Assist in the planning, implementation, and delivery of department meetings, trainings, and improvement initiatives.
• Lead cluster meetings and maintain open communication lines with direct reports.
• Represent the department and actively participate in college wide initiatives and committees to support student success.
• Manage a caseload of students by conducting advising sessions across various communication channels.
• Follow up with students at risk and refer them to appropriate support services when necessary.
• Conduct outreach for the purposes of retention and/or reengagement.
• Maintain detailed records of each student's progress and next steps in the advising system.
• Generate reports on course needs and collaborate with academic departments on scheduling.
• Assist with Visit Days, group advising events, and other College events as necessary.
• Protect the confidentiality of student personal information and comply with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
• Perform related duties as required.
