About The Position

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Structural Engineer for our Pittsburgh, PA office. Be involved in projects with our Transportation Structural Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering discipline and prior structural or civil design experience.
  • Familiarity with WVDOH standards, programs, and design manuals.
  • Ability to efficiently use structural analysis software such as MIDAS, Larsa, SAP 2000, RISA 3D or equivalent.
  • Highly proficient with structural engineering principles, practices, and design/build applications.
  • Extensive experience in bridge design, including rehabilitation, reconstruction, and new design projects.
  • Proficient in making technical computations and calculations involving engineering principles.
  • Experience with planning and conducting inspections and investigations on construction and design of bridges.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and provide guidance to team members with adherence to QA/QC.
  • Proficiency with technical writing and discipline-specific design software.
  • Experienced in preparing technical deliverables and plans with high complexity.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and directing subcontractors.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Engineering.
  • WVDOH Engineer license required (multi-state preferred).
  • Established client relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical direction to a staff of structural engineers.
  • Execute tasks as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Complete Project Management tasks.
  • Plan, analyze, design, and rehabilitate vehicular, pedestrian, and railroad bridges and transportation facilities.
  • Conduct analysis, design, and retrofit of retaining walls.
  • Perform construction staging analysis and evaluation of existing structures and load ratings.
  • Develop plans, prepare specifications, and review construction phase submittals and shop drawings.
  • Prepare technical reports and participate in field work including construction and structural integrity inspection.
  • Mentor junior staff and interact with clients.
  • Prepare technical and price proposals and engage in business development activities.
  • Remain current in the latest structural engineering techniques and practices.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources.
