About The Position

Lead Strategic Deterrent Systems Software Engineer–Aerospace Vehicle Equipment Company: The Boeing Company The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Lead Strategic Deterrent Systems Software Engineer–Aerospace Vehicle Equipment (AVE) to support our SDS Software Engineering team located in Layton, Utah. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Software Engineering organization. The ICBM (Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles) Operational Software Sustainment Program software team supports sustainment efforts for software end items for the ICBM Minuteman III mission. The Lead software engineer will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of Operational Software Change Requests on all AVE software products. The selected individual will also oversee the development and sustainment of the suite of software test tools and simulators required to develop and qualify the deliverable AVE software. This role requires a strong technical understanding of the software system as well as an ability to serve in a customer facing role as the technical point of contact for the customer for AVE software and represent Boeing software at IOSSP meetings with other contractors and the Air Force customer.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Clearance
  • 10+ years of software development experience in languages such as Ada, Fortran, C++
  • 5+ years of experience with the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) weapon system and its components
  • 3+ years of experience with real-time/near real-time simulations packages and development
  • 3+ years of experience as a lead software engineer of a Boeing program

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • 3+ years of software development experience specifically supporting AVE software (OGP, OFP, or FPC)
  • Strong understanding of complex algorithms, missile sequencing and timing, and ICBM system-level interactions
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including systems engineers, hardware engineers, and program managers
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle processes (SDLC)
  • Proficiency with version control and configuration management tools

Responsibilities

  • Lead the sustainment efforts on AVE software for the IOSSP (ICBM Operational Sustainment Program) program, including all simulators and test tools.
  • Own all software work product documentation and deliverables.
  • Lead efforts to modernize outdated equipment and software tools through the development and implementation of hardware emulation and software updates to tools and simulators.
  • Coordinate work with internal and external suppliers.
  • Advocate and plan for implementation of new tools and processes.
  • Identify and lead process improvement opportunities.
  • Technical point of contact for the customer for AVE software.
  • Represent Boeing software at IOSSP meetings with other contractors and Air Force customer.
  • Attend and present at Technical Information Meetings, Working Group meetings.
  • Oversee analysis and troubleshooting for field test anomalies and studies.
  • Facilitate communication between the IOSSP team and the Guidance Accuracy team.
  • Mentor junior engineers, assign them tasks within the AVE program
