Performs all functions of a sterile processing technician and collaborate with managers to meet daily departmental operation.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent, required. Associate preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in sterile processing department.
  • Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST) certification, required.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation/equipment and sterile supplies, required.
  • Understanding of the principles of electrical and mechanical safety as it pertains to Central Sterile, required.
  • Proficient Word, Excel and Outlook skills, required.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS)/ Certified Healthcare Leadership (CHL) certification, preferred.
  • Associate preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performs functions of a Sterile Processing Technician as assigned
  • Assist and collaborate with managers for the daily task assignments to meet departmental operation.
  • Assists Sterile Processing Managers with ensuring proper operational procedures are followed and completes required documentation/reporting.
  • Assists and collaborates with Sterile Processing Mangers on new employee orientation, on-the-job training, and in-service education.
  • Responsible for ensuring priority and one of a kind trays are prioritized
  • Reports and troubleshoots broken or missing instrumentation, equipment and communicates low par levels of SPD consumable supplies.
  • Assists with preventative maintenance on all instruments and patient care equipment following established JACHO, AORN, and AAMI quality control standards.
  • Collaborate with OR team to ensure trays and instruments are refurbished on a timely matter for safe and properly functioning.
  • Adhere to accurate count sheet for all surgical sets, case carts, code carts and other procedural carts as assigned. Informs manager of any discrepancies.
  • Responds and troubleshoot to calls from the operating room and other end-users during assigned shift.
  • Escalates facility/department issues or concerns to ensure proper resolution and coordinate with management.
  • Responsible for ensuring sterilization records are properly documented and filed monthly
  • Identifies and leads process improvement initiatives.
  • Participates in department quality control programs applies and adheres to JACHO, AORN, AAMI standards including biological, chemical and mechanical monitoring.
  • Performs related duties as required such as assume the responsibilities of a manager in the absence of a manager.
