About The Position

The position is for a Sterile Processing Technician at Geisinger Community Medical Center (GCMC), requiring a CRCST Certification and a minimum of 3 years of certified work experience. The role involves assisting with daily supervision and management activities related to the department, ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies, and performing sterilization and decontamination of supplies and equipment. The technician will also direct the work of others in the absence of management, assist with staffing and operational functions, and handle various technical tasks related to instrument sets. The position requires working nights from 10:30 PM to 7 AM, with a weekend call rotation, and offers a $3000 signing bonus for eligible candidates.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related work experience required.
  • Certified Sterile Processing Technician within 18 months from Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).
  • Skills in communication, infection control, mathematics, mentoring, multitasking, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily supervision and management activities related to the department.
  • Maintain departmental compliance with regulatory agencies, including Joint Commission and Department of Health.
  • Responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of supplies and equipment.
  • Direct the work of others in the absence of management personnel.
  • Assist with staffing, planning, and management of operational functions.
  • Assume responsibility for the department in the absence of management personnel.
  • Alter normal routines to adjust to irregular and emergent situations.
  • Assist and instruct in the supervision of specialized technical skills and work performance.
  • Work with the Supervisor in developing quality monitors and in-service programs.
  • Maintain listings and diagrams of surgical and floor grade instrument sets.
  • Assist with interviewing and replacing new employees.
  • Investigate problem areas or complaints concerning intra-and interdepartmental operations.
  • Perform all activities of a Sterile Processing Technician, including proper operation of decontamination and sterilization equipment.
  • Disassemble, clean, inspect, and assemble instrument sets.
  • Dispense products requested by verbal, written, or telephone requisitions.
