About The Position

The Lead Technician assists in the management of the Sterile Processing Department under the guidance and supervision of a Manager. He/She provides supervision in the absence of the Manager; assists with scheduling and time management; and provides sterile instruments and safe equipment for patients of all ages. The Lead Technician cleans, disinfects, assembles, packages and sterilizes surgical instruments; tests and operates sterilization equipment; monitors the sterilization process and sterilization equipment operation on a daily basis; documents and maintains sterilization records; assembles surgical supplies; and decontaminates patient equipment. The Lead Technician must be resourceful in procuring patient supplies and equipment. He/She orders and receives patient equipment and supplies; maintains accurate records; operates the computer to verify and assure correct patient charges; and conducts patient charge inquiry, posts and credits charges. The Lead Technician must effectively communicate with the Manager and staff; offer solutions and suggestions for improvements in intra and interdepartmental functions; and assist with the orientation and education of SPD staff. The Lead Technician must be trained and able to function in this role to facilitate understanding and communication between the Operating Room and the Sterile Processing Department.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • At least five years of Central Service experience required.
  • Certified Central Service Technician or actively pursuing certification.
  • Must have de-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days).
  • Two years computer experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate records and verify patient charges.
  • Communicate effectively with the Manager and staff.
  • Offer solutions for improvements in departmental functions.
  • Assist with the orientation and education of SPD staff.
