Provides quality patient care when performing diagnostic cardiology, vascular, or general sonographic imaging and related procedures to demonstrate anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention under the supervision of the department supervisor, manager, or director. Requirements

  • Depending on assigned department, meets education/training as required under established current American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and/or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) guidelines.
  • Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.
  • Must maintain one of the following: 1. Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) in TWO of the following registries: Abdomen, Breast, Musculoskeletal, Neurosonology, OB/GYN, Pediatrics, or Vascular; or 2. Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in Fetal Echocardiography; or 3. Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS); or 4. Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS), Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS) Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
  • Two (2) years’ experience in Sonography is required.
  • Must demonstrate competency in performing routine and complex general ultrasound exams including, but not limited to, Abdominal, OB/GYN, Pediatrics, Doppler, Interventional, Small Parts and Contrast examinations; or demonstrate competency in performing routine and complex echocardiology exams including, but not limited to, 2-D and M-Mode Imaging, Strain, and Contrast examinations; or demonstrate competency in performing routine and complex vascular sonography exams including, but not limited to, 2-D and M-Mode Imaging, Color Flow and Spectral Doppler, Carotid Ultrasound, Venous Doppler Upper and Lower Extremities, and Arterial Duplex Upper and Lower Extremities. Must have knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates competency in performing routine general, cardiology and/or vascular ultrasound diagnostics, and equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Responsible for performing diagnostic imaging and related procedures as outlined in the Echo/Vascular Sonographer III or General Sonographer III job descriptions.
  • Functions in a supervisory level in the absence of the Supervisor/Director/Manager of Non-Invasive Cardiology when requested.
  • Directs and assists with the daily workflow of the imaging team to include patient flow, supply ordering, staffing assignments and resolution of customer services issues.
  • Works with vendors and Clinical Engineering to schedule equipment downtime for preventive maintenance and repairs and reports any equipment issues promptly.
  • Works closely with the radiologist, cardiologist, or vascular physicians to perform general or noninvasive and/or invasive cardiology and/or vascular diagnostic sonographic exams, and functions independently in the absence of the supervisor and/or manager.
  • Maintains CEU tracking for department sonographers.
  • May assist with maintaining the department’s time keeping using Orlando Health’s time keeping system.
  • Participates in supervising student sonographers, training, and orienting new sonographers, directing daily workflow, participates in quality and safety initiatives, acting as a department super user, participates in committees related to modality, department, or facility, participates in educational in-services, and complex care programs.
  • Requires specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise in own job discipline or field.
  • Leads others in complex problem solving.
  • Uses sophisticated analytical thought to exercise judgement and identify innovative solutions.
  • Works independently with guidance only in complex situations.

  • Assesses the patient’s physical condition and age specific needs.
  • Provides instructions that achieve patient cooperation and desired results.
  • Performs proper patient identification, acquires patient’s clinical history, and assures that the information is accurately documented.
  • Position patient, equipment, associated devices and manipulates technical factors to achieve high quality images for interpretation.
  • Assesses diagnostic images for technical quality, proper annotation, and patient identification, ensuring that all relative anatomy is demonstrated.
  • Comprehends and complies with Quality Control standards and participates in all Quality Control tasks.
  • Administers medical aid as required for any emergency.
  • Applies appropriate standard precautions and personal protective equipment to prevent cross-contamination of contagious diseases.
  • Utilizes all Orlando Health computer systems effectively and accurately.
  • Ensures safety of all customers.
  • Maintains accurate and precise documentation. Accurately record verbal and telephone orders from physicians in the patient record.
  • Communicates openly and effectively with all members of the healthcare team.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
