About The Position

At AT&T, secure, cloud-first technology is the foundation of our future. As a Lead Software Engineer, Test Strategy in our Chief Security Office (CSO), you’ll play a critical role in protecting millions of customers and the infrastructure that powers our world. You’ll drive the technical excellence of our testing and QA engineering, ensuring our cloud security platforms are robust, innovative, and ready for tomorrow’s challenges. We’re seeking a hands-on, highly skilled engineer who thrives on building, automating, and optimizing testing strategies for cloud-native environments. This is your chance to shape the quality and security of Astra—AT&T’s flagship cloud security platform—and be a technical leader in a team that values curiosity, creativity, and collaboration.

Requirements

  • An expert in building and scaling test automation for cloud-native platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Deeply knowledgeable about modern QA methodologies, security testing, CI/CD pipelines, and automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, JUnit, PyTest).
  • Hands-on experience building agentic systems applied to software testing, such as LLM-based agents that can plan multi-step tasks, use tools/APIs, and iteratively improve outcomes (e.g., generating tests from requirements, self-healing tests, failure triage, and automated debugging assistance).
  • Experience implementing guardrails and reliability controls for agentic workflows, including prompt/version management, tool-permissioning, human-in-the-loop review, deterministic checkpoints, and evaluation harnesses.
  • Experience integrating agentic systems with engineering toolchains (e.g., Git workflows, CI/CD pipelines, test runners, observability/log platforms, ticketing systems).
  • A collaborative team player, able to communicate complex ideas effectively across technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or related field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering, test automation, or QA for cloud-based platforms.
  • Experience with AI/ML-driven testing or emerging automation tools.
  • Proven record of successfully leading quality initiatives through technological and organizational change.
  • Familiarity with applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Machine Learning (ML) techniques in cybersecurity contexts (e.g., anomaly detection, threat hunting, behavioral analytics, or risk scoring).
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree (MS/MA) in Computer Science, Engineering, or Cybersecurity preferred.
  • 5+ years of related experience in software engineering and test automation.

Responsibilities

  • Innovate with Automation, AI, and Agentic Systems: Leverage advanced test automation, AI-driven testing, and agentic systems to increase coverage, efficiency, and insight across functional, performance, and security domains. You will design and implement agent-based testing workflows where AI agents can: Interpret product requirements/user stories and generate test plans and traceability Create, execute, and self-heal automated functional tests (UI/API) using tool-integrations Dynamically explore applications under test (guided exploratory testing) and propose new test cases based on observed behavior Triage failures by correlating logs, traces, screenshots, network calls, and recent code changes Recommend fixes (or draft PR-ready changes) to test code, selectors, mocks, and test data
  • Engineer World-Class Testing: Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive test frameworks and automation pipelines, including agentic test orchestration that can plan tasks, call tools (test runners, CI jobs, log systems), and iterate based on results.
  • Drive Data-Driven Quality: Use metrics, analytics, and agent evaluation loops (e.g., pass/fail reliability, flake detection, hallucination/incorrect-action rates) to continuously improve testing processes and the accuracy/safety of agent-driven automation.
