About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Lead Software Engineer to drive the development and delivery of our core platform while leading a small, high-performing engineering team. This fully remote role offers the opportunity to make hands-on technical contributions while shaping the team’s processes, performance standards, and engineering culture. You will work closely with product and executive leadership to break down projects, estimate timelines, unblock engineers, and ensure delivery of production-grade solutions. This position combines strategic ownership, technical decision-making, and mentorship responsibilities, allowing you to influence the evolution of the platform while fostering sustainable team growth. Ideal candidates thrive in fast-paced, startup-like environments and enjoy turning complex problems into elegant, maintainable solutions.

Requirements

• Minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, and Heroku in production-grade applications.
• Proven experience leading small engineering teams at early-stage startups (under 20 engineers).
• Strong experience working with Product Managers and Product Designers to translate product vision into technical execution.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment while ensuring sustainable team practices.
• Located in the USA or Canada, maintaining core working hours between 10 am – 2 pm EST.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor the engineering team by setting clear performance expectations and guiding technical execution.
• Make and own key technical decisions for the core platform, ensuring high-quality code, architecture, and reliability.
• Break down projects into technical tickets, provide accurate estimates, and oversee delivery timelines in collaboration with product leadership.
• Review and write code as needed, maintaining hands-on involvement with the platform.
• Collaborate with the CEO and Product Lead on project planning, platform improvements, and feature prioritization.
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and sustainable engineering practices within the team.
