About The Position

Lead Software Development Engineer Labcorp Genetics (formerly Invitae) is seeking a remote Lead Software Development Engineer to join our team. Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (Time zone flexibility within USA) Our Lead Software Development Engineer will impact and influence multiple services and platforms through their highly developed system design and architecture skills. This individual contributor has the scope of multiple initiatives spanning across multiple teams. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, IT or related field
  • 5+ years progressive software development experience
  • Experience building or integrating AI‑driven or automation‑focused systems
  • Cloud infrastructure experience on a major public cloud (AWS or Azure)
  • Experience programming in Python or another high‑level, object‑oriented language
  • Experience building and operating microservices
  • Experience with containerized systems (e.g., Kubernetes)
  • Experience with CI/CD pipeline
  • Strong foundation in software design principles

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, IT or related field
  • Hands‑on experience with agentic AI, multi‑agent systems, or autonomous workflow design
  • Experience with distributed systems technologies such as Redis, Kafka/RMQ/SQS, workflow orchestrators (Nextflow, Step Functions), and storage tiers (S3, NAS, NFS)
  • Work experience in health‑tech, health‑sciences, or life sciences
  • Experience working with Agile development practices
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver maintainable, high‑quality code and manage complex technical projects
  • Experience designing systems and APIs that are debuggable, observable, and maintainable

Responsibilities

  • Architect Agentic AI: Design and implement agentic AI workflows and multi-agent systems (MAS) to automate complex, autonomous business processes
  • Scale Cloud Infrastructure: Build and maintain high-availability systems on AWS utilizing Kubernetes, container orchestration, and diverse storage tiers (S3, NFS, NAS)
  • Optimize Data Flow: Engineering robust pipelines using message brokers (Kafka, RMQ, SQS), caching (Redis), and workflow orchestrators (Nextflow, AWS Step Functions)
  • Develop Microservices: Design maintainable, observable APIs and microservices using Python and Agile practices
  • Enhance Platform Rigor: Actively improve CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) to ensure rapid, reliable delivery
  • Decompose Ambiguity: Breakdown open-ended business cases into well-defined technical components and execution roadmaps
  • End-to-End Ownership: Take full accountability for projects from initial architecture and design through to deployment, monitoring, and long-term support.
  • Technical Stewardship: Act as a role model for code quality; conduct rigorous code reviews and uphold high standards for reusable, efficient, and adaptable software.
  • Mentorship & Growth: Proactively mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
  • Strategic Influence: Contribute to the broader technology roadmap and architecture, identifying solutions that level up the team’s operational maturity.
  • Inclusive Collaboration: Partner with cross-functional stakeholders and diverse teams to drive alignment and create win-win technical outcomes.
  • Business Context: Demonstrate a deep understanding of how technical decisions intersect with and drive overall business goals.
