About The Position

The University of Maryland School of Medicine Department of Neurology is seeking to hire a Senior Social Worker or a Lead Social Worker (SW) to work within the department. This position will be filled dependent on the candidate's education and experience. This position will work within our Epilepsy Division assisting our physicians and CRNP staff with social and financial challenges faced by our patients and their families. This position will also support our Center for Adults with Neuro-Developmental Disorders (CCAND). The CCAND functions to evaluate and provide comprehensive care to adult individuals with autism, intellectual disability, and epilepsy. The Department of Neurology provides evaluation, treatment, and care for patients suffering from a wide range of neurological disorders including stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and migraine. We provide care through our inpatient and consultative services, our designated Comprehensive Stroke Center, our Level 4 Epilepsy Center, our 22-bed Neuro-Critical Care Unit, and our busy outpatient practice. The Department also provides state-of-the-art rehabilitation services. A number of departmental faculty received grant funding from the National Institutes of Health and the Veteran’s Administration to study the role of genetics in stroke, epilepsy, and Parkinson’s disease, new brain imaging modalities in multiple sclerosis, biomarkers in multiple sclerosis, and neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism and intellectual disability. Many faculty are lead investigators in clinical trials to identify new therapeutic approaches for a broad range of neurological disorders. In this position, the SW will function with significant practice autonomy, and experience with EPIC electronic medical record software is strongly preferred. The SW will participate in bi-weekly patient care and administrative meetings. This position is required to be vaccinated against COVID−19. For additional information on protocols and exemptions, please visit the COVID-19 website. The Lead Social Worker position is eligible for a $7,000 sign-on bonus. The Senior Social Worker position is eligible for a $6,000 sign-on bonus. Half will be paid within the first 30 days of employment, and half will be paid upon successful completion of probation. Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Social Work.
  • One (1) year related social worker experience with licensure as either LMSW, LCSW or LCSW-C in related area of treatment including responsibility for training, work coordination, and monitoring the work of others.
  • State of Maryland licensure as a Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Certified Social Worker - Clinical (LCSW-C).
  • No substitution of experience for minimum education requirement.
  • Master’s degree in Social Work.
  • Two (2) years post-licensure (LCSW-C) experience related experience in area of treatment including responsibility for training, work coordination, and monitoring the work of others.
  • State of Maryland Board Approval as a designated supervisor.
  • Licensed as (LCSW-C) in the state of Maryland.
  • No substitution of experience for minimum education requirement.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Assess risk by screening and interviewing clients. Identify and construct service plans that best meet the client¿s needs, and determine best resources available.
  • Develop plans by identifying programs and services available for a variety client issues dealing with challenges, change, and crisis. May have responsibility for program elements.
  • Maintain case history records and document client(s) progress. May perform chart reviews and generates notes on evaluations, therapy sessions, reports and other accountability measures.
  • Counsel individuals, groups, families, or communities regarding issues including mental health, poverty, unemployment, substance abuse, physical abuse, rehabilitation, social adjustment, child care, and/or medical care in accordance with licensure.
  • Provide training, guidance, and support to others preparing for use of resources.
  • May supervise other social workers, interns, students, or employees in accordance with licensure.
  • Assist in development of policies, protocols, or procedures as requested.
  • May review and provide submission of authorized documentation for reimbursement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
