About The Position

The Lead - Shipping & Receiving's primary function is to oversee and coordinate the daily operations of the shipping and receiving department, while ensuring product is accurately received, inspected, stored, and shipped in a timely and efficient manner. This position requires the ability to run the shift with minimal supervision, delegate manpower, and monitor staff hours. The Lead will also maintain a solid understanding of start-up and shutdown procedures of the facility, equipment, and machinery, coach staff, and report any concerns to the Supervisor and Manager.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of shipping & receiving procedures and documentation
  • 3+ years' warehouse & shipping/receiving experience, preferably with previous experience in a Lead position
  • Thorough knowledge of packaging standards and works toward preventing freight damage
  • Ability to inspect and verify materials accurately - attention to detail to meet quality standards
  • Familiarity with packaging standards and damage prevention practices
  • Effective communication skills with supervisor and team
  • Demonstrates problem solving skills, initiative, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn
  • Leadership skills - can successfully direct and allocate work within the department
  • Reliable
  • Forklift experience and certification
  • Available for overtime when necessary to meet business needs

Responsibilities

  • Capable of running shift with minimal to no supervision, delegating manpower where/when needed, assigning staff to their daily assignments, monitoring staff hours and report OT needs to Manager
  • Maintains solid understanding of start-up and shutdown procedures of facility, equipment & machinery
  • Coach staff as needed and report thoughts or concerns to Supervisor and Manager
  • Coordinate and execute the receiving of incoming shipments in a timely and accurate manner
  • Verify incoming materials against packing slips, purchase orders, and other documentation
  • Inspect received goods for damage, quantity discrepancies, and quality issues
  • Complete system transactions in MRP/ERP and generate required reports
  • Unload trucks safely and efficiently using appropriate equipment
  • Communicate any receiving issues or discrepancies to the Supervisor
  • Organize and stage received materials for storage or production use
  • Complete inventory cycle counts on a daily basis per standardized work instructions
  • Coordinate to ensure shipments are packaged and shipped ahead of due date
  • Completing paperwork accurately: Bill of Lading, Customs Documentation, etc.
  • Wrapping and crating of completed orders
  • Loading/ unloading trucks in a timely fashion
  • Identify truck layouts for consolidated / large shipments
  • Package finished goods for parcel shipments, process shipments through FedEx / UPS
  • Identify and communicate potential late orders daily
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of receiving area
  • Work safely and effectively, following all company safety protocols
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth material flow
  • Other duties as required
