About The Position

The Lead Server is responsible for courteously serving resident and guest meals, and for clean-up and resetting of dining room following meal service. The Lead Server is also responsible for supervising the daily assignments of the servers, ensuring proper training, as well as ensuring proper coverage to meet the business needs. This role involves maintaining a good working knowledge of all dining room and kitchen responsibilities and procedures, understanding basic kitchen equipment operation (food processor, dishwasher, beverage machine, etc.), and maintaining a clean work area in the kitchen, serving area, and dining room. The Lead Server understands proper table setting for each meal, maintains the schedule for servers including call outs and coverage for all assigned shifts, and maintains daily assignments for the servers. They assist with the interviewing and hiring process of applicants for Lead Server positions and conduct training for all new and current servers. The Lead Server maintains daily food orders, is required to post new menus daily/weekly, and oversees seating and timing of meals and the overall dining experience. They also oversee the process and set up for special events, assist residents when placing orders from the menu and with the completion of take-out orders, and provide beverage service (water, iced tea, juices, milk and coffee/tea). Other duties include refilling salt/pepper/sugar bowls prior to and after each meal, reporting any broken equipment or tableware to the supervisor, understanding sit-down service and proper serving techniques, and having a basic understanding of food preparation (salads, desserts, etc.). Knowledge of proper food storage and labeling techniques is also required. The Lead Server is responsible for sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming the kitchen and dining room, attending required in-services and staff meetings, and being attentive to special needs of residents including mobility deficits and memory impairment. They assist with tray service, follow confidentiality policies regarding release of resident and associate information, interact in a polite and considerate manner to residents, guests, co-workers and supervisors, and resolve complaints. The Lead Server completes all other duties assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED
  • Must secure and maintain Serv-Safe certification
  • Must be in clean designated uniform during working hours and maintain good personal hygiene
  • Must be able to read and follow simple instructions
  • Must possess ability to perform simple, repetitive tasks
  • Must be able to learn quickly and apply learned principles
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and work under close supervision
  • Must be able to bend, reach, grasp, push and pull objects
  • Must be able to stand and walk for sustained periods up to three (3) hours at a time
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs on a regular basis and carry heavy objects for 20 feet
  • Must be organized and willing to work well with other associates
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays
