About The Position

The Lead Sensor and Controls Hardware Engineer is responsible for the wind turbine controls hardware architecture and components. This includes the wind turbine and wind plant controller, the I/O hardware, turbine and plant sensors and communication devices. You will own controls hardware components and support them through the whole product lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar field with Renewable Energy emphasis preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in sensor, electrical, electronic, controls or power systems design
  • Eligibility Requirements Willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with large power generation equipment vibration monitoring systems
  • Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects in a global, matrix organization
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols such as PROFIBUS, PROFINET, MODBUS, OPC-UA, and IEC-61850
  • Understanding of data acquisition systems, remote monitoring, and SCADA
  • Experience in wind turbines design, specifically in control hardware and software
  • Experience with technical drawings, documentation and BOM structure
  • Ability to succeed in a global team environment
  • Self-starter, who delivers results with minimal supervision
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for technical design of wind turbine controls hardware, including sensors (temperature, proximity, vibration, etc.), I/O, and communication hardware
  • Define specifications and requirements for sensors and communication systems and cabinets
  • Responsible for continuous development of proper engineering documentation, including bills of material, drawings, specifications, manufacturing & field instructions, guidelines, etc.
  • Define test and validation requirements.
  • Support and execute lab testing
  • Work with suppliers and site teams on component root cause analysis.
  • Lead turbine retrofits and upgrades for wind turbines
  • Support product development programs design review discussions and present relevant design details to chief engineers for evaluation and approval
  • Occasionally travel to site to support product testing and/or customer issues
