A Brief Overview The Lead Security Officer (LSO) is responsible for staffing a security post on a shift when needed and providing leadership to the Security Officers. Leads, organizes, and directs the activities of the Dispatcher and Security Officers on a day-to-day basis. Responsible for overseeing the field training of new hires and reviewing and approving case reports. Leads the departments initial response to emergencies and during the absence of the other department leadership. Represents the security department at meetings, functions, activities as directed. Essential Functions Functions as Security Officer: Staffs a security post and patrols the facilities in vehicle or on foot as directed ensuring safety and security of the facilities. Respond to calls-for-service, offering support and service to employees and visitors. Enforces CHS policies and takes necessary steps to protect the facilities. Escorts visitors and vendors to and from secure areas. Responds to all codes and alarms. Effectively controls combative, unruly or intoxicated patients, visitors, employees or trespassers, deescalating the situation using appropriate methods to achieve a desirable outcome. Completes regular daily reports and detailed incident reports. Maintains security of facilities by properly unlocking and locking required doors.. Greets and interacts with visitors and vendors to provide assistance and support. Leads Security Officers in response to situations and emergencies on a day-to-day basis: Responds to situations requiring more than one Security Officer and takes charge or oversees situation. Participates in daily report out for the hospital Prepares shift briefing Uses scheduling program to schedule officers to meet established staffing requirements. Ensures security officers compliance with directives and policies. Informs the Security Supervisor of staff issues. Directs the provision of services from the Security Department in the field. Liaisons with other departments in provisioning services. Trains Security Officers to perform their duties. Evaluates Security Officers and makes recommendations for discipline/reward to management. Carries out the plans and programs as directed. Leads the Security Department during the prolonged absence of the Security Manager and Security Supervisor: Keeps management informed of decisions made. Informs CHS management of critical issues. Makes decisions under the direction of management. Leads the department in critical incident response. Approves/denies requests for time-off. Performs the functions of the Security Manager. Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job. Perform physical requirements as described in the Physical Requirements section

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • 1-3 years Experience in a security function Required
  • Requires ability to read, write, speak, and perform mathematical calculations to complete investigations, reports, and work with the public, patients, visitors, employees and staff in a professional and competent manner.
  • Proven knowledge of security and facilities systems, procedures, and policies.
  • Demonstrates ability to plan, lead, organize, direct, and control the activities of others.
  • IAHSS Certified Healthcare Security Supervisory Officer (CHSSO) within 60 Days Required
  • BLS - Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association Required
  • Response to Resistance certification or Defensive Tactics trained through Human Factor Systems Training (PPCT) within 60 Days Required
  • A valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle record/driving record Required

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree or higher level of formal education Preferred
  • Previous supervisory experience Preferred
  • Previous hospital security, civilian law enforcement or military Preferred
